Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses are authorized for this position.  The Department of Veterans Affairs offers Permanent Change of Station (PCS) relocation services. Permanent Change of Station is the relocation of a household due to government convenience in connection with a transfer between duty stations or facilities. Promotion Potential: This position is being filled at the full performance, GS-14, level.  There is no known promotion potential.
The Assistant Veterans Service Center Manager shares responsibility with the Veterans Service Center Manager for directing and supervising the administration of work involving the development, examination, adjustment, reconsideration or authorization of the settlement of claims filed by veterans, their dependents and beneficiaries; as well as taking claims and assisting claimants in the preparation of claims, appeals or other documents.  Monetary benefits are awarded for service-connected and non-service connected disabilities, death compensation; including dependency and indemnity compensation and death pension and burial accrued benefits for veterans, dependents, and beneficiaries.  Specific duties include:
  • Providing technical guidance and direction in compensation and pension authorization, rating board benefits information, work-study and other activities related to veteran’s benefits including outreach services to various consumer groups. 
  • Making decisions determining basic eligibility for VA programs and assuming final responsibility for the proper interpretation and uniform application of laws, regulations and instructions in conformance with mandatory procedures and practices reconciling divergent opinions. 
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with various civic and veterans’ organizations to coordinate efforts and enhance cooperation with VA. 
  • Ensuring equal opportunities for all Service Center employees and supporting EEO goals.
  • Budgetary controls and expenditures of fund allocation for the Division.
  • Providing timely responses to Congressional, White House and other special inquiries concerning VA benefits.
