Location : Dallas, TX
The primary purpose of this
position is to perform a variety of administrative and clerical duties
associated with determining eligibility, receiving, admitting and
discharging patients in support of veterans treatment in our outpatient
clinics and in-patient care units at this facility. Receives and relays
and/or answers incoming and outgoing telephone, intercom, and
electronic messages. Determines and documents veterans eligibility for
hospitalization, ambulatory care, nursing home care, dental care and
treatment-related travel. Refers new patients to the Health Benefits
Advisor for eligibility determination. Processes and schedules
first-time admissions or outpatient treatment using the appointment
management software packages(s). Reviews veteran discharge
papers/documentation to verify service dates and enrolls the individual
into the database. Reviews documentation to obtain additional
information and determines eligibility for treatment. Arranges and
schedules initial and follow-up medical appointments. Refers information
on patients needing emergency care to appropriate technician, nurse
and/or physician. Arranges for needed tests, x-rays, and other medical
procedures as well as patient consultations with other
departments/facilities, and refers individuals not requiring medical
services in said facility to other departments or other medical
facilities, as appropriate. Schedules, changes, and cancels appointments
using the automated system. Initiates new medical records, annotates
and/or attaches allergy alert emblems, and updates patients automated
and/or manual medical record to include filing results of treatments,
recording a variety of doctors orders or notes on various charts and
records, recording medical data and recording other documentation as
required by the medical staff.
NOTE:
The full performance level of this position is GS-5. The actual grade
at which an applicant may be appointed from this vacancy announcement is
GS-3, GS-4 or GS-5. The Medical Support Assistant Professional
Standards Board (which is a peer-review group) will review the
selectee's education and experience and recommend the grade and step at
which the candidate will be placed. The salary will be based on the
grade and step approved for the selected candidate.
WORK SCHEDULE:
· Outpatient areas: Monday through Friday various day tours with occasional Saturdays.
· Inpatient areas: Various tours with various days off.
