The Associate, New Ventures position
is responsible for supporting the development of strategic and quality
long-term growth through research and analysis of new business ventures.
This position is located in the Kansas City metropolitan area and
relocation will be considered.

WORK-RELATED EXPERIENCE:
- Tortoise Capital Advisors is a rapidly growing financial services firm that focuses on providing energy infrastructure investment management services to individual and institutional investors. Tortoise has approximately $12.4 billion in assets under management across publicly-traded closed-end funds, open-end funds, and approximately 800 separately managed accounts.
POSITION SUMMARY:
- Responsible for supporting the development of strategic and quality long-term growth through research and analysis of new business ventures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS:
- Provide execution support on new ventures through diligence, market research, structuring and project modeling
- Track, assess and provide periodic updates on research, trends and issues in related industries / focus areas
- Assist in the development of implementation approaches to turn potential new ventures into long-term businesses
- Assist in the drafting, review and revision of new venture documentation, including term sheets, business plans, internal dashboard reports and other relevant materials
- Purposely spend dedicated time on broader macroeconomic, industry and capital markets trends and dynamics
- Provide support for current business development team
- Support the professional development of more junior team members
- Inherent strategic, innovative, independent and visionary thinker – idea driven
- Self-starter - the type of person that proactively generates ideas and can also execute them
- Demonstrated ability and experience working with different constituencies and independently advancing projects with little guidance
- Strong understanding of and experience in capital markets – ability to use that combined with marketing perspective to sense, identify and assess business merits and positioning
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; strength and experience in building relationships
- Ability to work in dynamic, collaborative, team-oriented environment
- Ability to work under pressure and beyond standard hours to meet deadlines and project objectives
- Proficient level of skill in MS Office (particularly modeling, macro writing, pivot tables, chart/table creation, and Bloomberg functions in Excel)
- Proficient in the use of industry research/information tools such as Bloomberg and others.
- 4 year undergraduate degree with strong academic record (economics, entrepreneurial, business / finance-oriented degrees preferred but not required)
- Either hold, or have interest in possibly pursuing, the Chartered Financial Analyst designation preferred but not required
WORK-RELATED EXPERIENCE:
- 4-5 years work experience in private equity, investment banking, entrepreneurship or consulting
- Strong background in research and project management / deal execution and development of associated materials (i.e. documents, models, presentations, market analysis) preferred
