This position is currently eligible for a telework and/or compressed workweek arrangement at the present time.  The arrangement may be delayed for training or other job acclimation purposes, and remains subject to change. 

 

What You'll Do

At John Deere Intelligent Solutions Group in Urbandale, IA as a Software Development Engineer, you willbe part of building industry altering new mobile applications and technology for agriculture that will directly impact how customers work.   In the role you will:

• Help build and maintain precision technology software that will revolutionize the agricultural industry.
• Be a member of a highly skilled agile software development team working closely with other team members to ensure the success of our innovative products. SDEs write production code that improves the efficiency of our customer's equipment.
• Work closely with Software Development Engineers in Test (SDETs) and Product Owners (POs), each contributing equally to the development life cycle.
• Build software in an environment that fosters a 'culture of craftsmanship and speed'. The SDE builds and tests highly complex software with a level of quality that our customers expect from the John Deere brand.
• Collaborate with other SDEs and SDETs to build software that meets the requirements defined by the Product Owner (PO).

By fostering a fast paced team environment that strives for open and honest communication and being servant leaders, we deliver products that work for our customers.  Ideally you will have a Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience in a related career field.  In addition we require:

• 2+ years of professional software development
• Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design and data structures
• Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, and asynchronous architectures
• Excellent communication, sharp analytical abilities and proven design skills
• Proficiency in, at least, one modern programming language such as C, C++, C#, or Java

A strong candidate will also have:

• Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
• Knowledge of professional software engineering practices and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
• Hands-on expertise in many technologies ranging from front-end user interfaces (HTML5 and JavaScript) to native mobile application development (Android, iOS, etc.)
• Familiarity with Windows development environments
