What You'll Do
 
As a Tool Designer for the John Deere Waterloo Works, located in Waterloo, IA, you will understand and procure simple to complex tools, stampings, fixtures, gages for both component and assembly manufacture for current production upgrades and new product programs. In addition, you will:  
  • Understand GD&T to be able to apply, and modify using technical judgment and experience, tooling designs they are procuring.
  • Search and implement new technologies available and share this knowledge with designers and engineers with less experience.
  • Manage the in-house tool procurement and be the interface with the in-house tool shop supporting and coordinating with those building the new tooling and gages.
  • Manage and be the lead point of contact for outside suppliers providing builds, ranging from simple to complex tooling required for each new project.

What It Takes

 
We need an excellent communicator, both verbal and written, who thrives on solving problems and working in a team environment. Ideally, you will have a Degree in Technology, Engineering or equivalent work experience in a related field.  We also require: 
  • A background in Engineering
  • Knowledge of drawing and schematic interpretation, product models, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Experience in Machining/Manufacturing
  • Knowledge of materials engineering and mechanics
  • Knowledge of industry standards relating to engineering, manufacturing and quality 
A strong candidate will also have: 
  • Technical Experience relating to design/diagnostics of mechanical/electrical/hydraulic systems (1-3 years)
  • Tooling/Product Engineering experience (1-3 years)
  • Tooling, fixture, and gage design, test and/or analysis experience (1-3 years)
  • Experience with engineering tools, systems and databases (1-3 years)
  • Experience with Computer Aided Design Systems (1-3 years)
