Principal Product Manager



Cloud Backup and Recovery Services



EMC’s Data Protection & Availability Division (DPAD), a market leader in the backup and recovery industry, is looking for a Product Manager responsible for driving the development of cloud-based backup and disaster recovery solutions. This will include ownership of the service strategy, development of product specifications, pricing and licensing issues, determination of product positioning, and the design of related sales support materials. This individual will also serve as a chief evangelist and domain expert for this service and will work with others across DPAD to marshal the resources necessary to meet revenue objectives. This position reports to the Senior Director of Product Management for DPAD’s cloud strategy team.



In this role you will interface regularly with senior executives across the company and become intimately familiar with customer needs and preferences, analyze competitive and industry trends, and develop models to ultimately deliver and communicate recommendations to our senior executives.



Job Responsibilities



· Collaborate with engineering to define product releases and make ongoing feature set trade-off/requirements decisions throughout the development process.



· Draft requirements for the Backup and Disaster Recovery service and work with development to ensure that services are developed in line with these requirements.



· Identify target scenarios, markets, and customer segments for the product offering.



· Develop product positioning including strong differentiation relative to competing products.



· Actively support the sales team through training and appropriate involvement in sales processes.



· Occasional travel is required.



Skills Required



· Keen customer focus with dedication to meeting and exceeding customer expectations, acting with the customer in mind, and maintaining effective customer relationships



· Experience identifying and documenting customer requirements. Experience with Agile or Scrum a plus.



· A strong analytical foundation and a demonstrated track record of clear strategic thinking, problem solving, data-driven decisions, and strong business analytics.



· The ability to provide structure to undefined business problems while integrating market dynamics and business objectives into clear market-changing strategies.



· Experience in facilitating organizational alignment and momentum towards recommendations and approaches. Extensive cross-group coordination and strong interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively collaborate with team members in program management, development, marketing, sales, and customer support.



· Outstanding written and verbal communications.



· A process-focused aptitude, the ability to deal with ambiguity and attention to detail.



· Five-plus years of product management or related experience in B2B software with a proven track record developing and driving initiatives.



In summary, the ideal candidate will have excellent analytical skills and strong technical aptitude, excellent verbal and written communication skills, a strong customer focus, product management experience, and the ability to be successful with complex cross-group projects. Must demonstrate real product passion and desire to own projects and make them succeed. Technical background strongly preferred. MBA is a plus.
