The Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
nurse incorporates the nursing care process in the assessment of,
diagnosis of, intervention of, and identification, implementation, ,and
evaluation of the plan of care for optimal outcomes. Collaborates on a
continuum the plan of care through communication with interdisciplinary
teams, patients and families while addressing patient safety, comfort,
and satisfaction. Must have a working knowledge of the care and
management of patients in the setting. Must possess knowledge of
respective clinical area to include all equipment used, infection
control, regulatory requirements, universal precautions and all other
skills, including pharmacology and IV therapy, related to patient care
delivery. Knowledgeable and sensitive to patients' rights in the
delivery of care. Communicates in a clear, concise manner appropriate
to the developmental stage of the patient. Demonstrates exemplary
customer service skills. Shows sensitivity when interacting with
patients, families, physicians, and co-workers. The position requires
independent judgment and nursing actions, flexibility, organizational
skills, and the ability to utilize an interdisciplinary approach in the
provision of the professional nursing care. The PCU nurse must be
motivated and self-directed in learning. The PCU nurse is responsible
both clinically and administratively to the Nurse Manager of the unit. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred and successful completion required if selected.
