More information about this job:
Overview:
The Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) is a
global health organization committed to strengthening integrated health
systems in the developing world and expanding access to care and
treatment for HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases. Based on the
premise that business-oriented strategies can facilitate solutions to
global health challenges, CHAI acts as a catalyst to mobilize new
resources and optimize the impact of these resources to save lives, via
improved organization of commodity markets and more effective national
and sub-national level management. CHAI is focused on large scale impact
and, to date, has secured lower pricing agreements for treatment
options in more than 70 countries. In addition, CHAI’s teams are working
side-by-side with over 25 governments to tackle many of the largest
health system barriers to effective care and treatment.
CHAI’s
global malaria program provides direct management and technical support
to countries around the globe to strengthen their malaria programs and
reduce the burden of this preventable, treatable disease. We support
governments to scale up effective interventions for prevention,
diagnosis, treatment, and surveillance, with the goals of sustainably
reducing the number of malaria-related illnesses and deaths worldwide in
the short-term and accelerating progress towards malaria elimination in
the long term.
Summary of Position:
CHAI
is seeking an associate to support global operations of its malaria
financing program. CHAI's malaria financing work involves two
workstreams. First, we support governments to increase domestic
financing for their malaria programs and work with the private sector to
invest in malaria control. Second, we work to design and adapt more
efficient and higher impact mechanisms for providing donor aid to
national malaria programs. Both of these projects focus on ensuring
sustainable, predictable financing to malaria programs to allow them to
minimize the burden of disease and maintain their gains over time.
Experience
in malaria, or global health is not a requisite for this position, but
curiosity and ambition to learn about the disease and how countries can
fight it – including issues related to financing, diagnosis, treatment,
& surveillance – is. We are looking for an intelligent and driven
individual, who can think broadly and produce impeccable product to
advance the work stream.
The
successful individual will be highly motivated, with outstanding
analytical, presentation, time management, and communication skills.
The candidate must be able to function independently and flexibly, along
with a deep personal commitment to producing the highest quality
results. CHAI places great value on relevant personal qualities:
resourcefulness, entrepreneurialism, tenacity, independence, humility,
and work ethic.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with the overall management of work streams, including developing compelling PowerPoint presentations and excel workbooks that demonstrate a potential grant structure
- Identify specific countries that would be strong candidates for new aid models and produce compelling documentation supporting their case
- Provide technical support to in-country operations on a variety of financing mechanisms, including tax-based revenue generation models and endowment fund or corporate fund models
- Support the evaluation of newly launched aid mechanisms, including remote support to in-country teams
- Support relevant country governments with understanding new aid models, their benefits, and implications for their programming
Qualifications:
- A university degree, masters level or above would be advantageous
- 3+ years of professional experience in the private or public sector, ideally with a top-tier management consulting, investment banking or similar calibre institution
- Exceptional skills in problem-solving, research and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data (including quantitative modelling, data analysis, study design)
- Strong synthesis, presentation and communication (written and verbal) skills, including the ability to make compelling PowerPoint presentations
- Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to build relationships in a multicultural environment with high-level stakeholders (e.g. board members and senior leadership of major health organizations)
- High level of proficiency in relevant computer applications, particularly MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word
- Ability to work in a high-performance environment and demonstrated flexibility to multi-task and respond to changing program needs
- Ability to operate independently, setting and achieving ambitious targets with limited guidance
