Overview:
The Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to strengthening integrated health systems in the developing world and expanding access to care and treatment for HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases. Based on the premise that business-oriented strategy can facilitate solutions to global health challenges, CHAI acts as a catalyst to mobilize new resources and optimize the impact of these resources to save lives, via improved organization of commodity markets and more effective national and sub-national level management.

CHAI is currently applying the techniques it has used successfully to improve access to HIV/AIDS and malaria treatment in developing countries to achieve the same for essential vaccines. Immunization is widely acknowledged as the most cost-effective and focused disease intervention and yet each year an estimated three million children under the age of five lose their lives to preventable illnesses.

There is an unprecedented wave of new vaccines expected to become available within the next decade that could transform the global burden of disease. However, the cost of deploying these products, while maintaining access to current vaccines, is expected to exceed $4 billion annually by 2015. Driven by the belief that all children deserve fair equitable access to the latest life-saving vaccines, CHAI has begun to work with key partners to negotiate price reductions for a number of these major vaccines. By working with key stakeholders, the CHAI Global Vaccine Markets program aims to support the achievement of affordable, yet commercially sustainable, vaccine prices, thereby increasing value for money and enabling accelerated introduction of new vaccines in developing countries.

To support this work, CHAI is looking to hire a Vaccine Pricing and Supplier Relations Analyst. As part of the Global Vaccines Markets team, this Analyst will be expected to support the team's work on ensuring affordable yet sustainable global vaccine prices and supply.
Responsibilities:
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with outstanding analytical and problem solving ability, communication skills, and academic credentials. The successful candidate will adhere to the core CHAI values of resourcefulness, entrepreneurialism, flexibility, independence, humility, and work ethic. The specific responsibilities of the Vaccine Pricing and Supplier Relations Analyst include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop a detailed understanding of the global markets for priority vaccines, including an understanding of the vaccine demand and supply forecasts and potential prices and supply timelines.
  • In preparation for potential vaccine pricing negotiations, develop a detailed understanding of vaccine economics, including but not limited to: vaccine cost of goods sold, key price drivers, and manufacturer margins.
  • Build detailed cost of goods sold models for specific vaccines during vaccine pricing negotiations, to support negotiations.
  • Screen current and potential vaccine suppliers in emerging markets, examining their product portfolio and pipeline, regulatory status, and production capacity, among other components.
  • Cultivate relationships with vaccine manufacturers that have the potential to become significant, quality-assured producers of relevant new vaccines for developing markets.
  • Build and maintain these relationships by providing these manufacturers with market insights and contacts, and by offering targeted support and guidance to navigate regulatory and procurement processes.
  • Support key development partners and vaccine manufacturers to develop, implement and monitor plans to make vaccines available at affordable prices and to develop products that meet the needs of low income countries.
  • Explore and initiate projects that could contribute to further improving supply and accessibility of vaccines for low income markets.
  • Any other duties as required by the Vaccines Manager, Vaccine Markets Team.
  • 20- 30% international travel time required.
