American Express–User Experience Designer Summer Internship 2013-14
The User Experience Designer at American Express will be part of the User Experience Design and Prototyping team, a talented and innovative group of UX strategists, designers and prototypers who follow a lean UX approach to creating and building digital experiences for the U.S. and international markets.
The User Experience Designer provides in-house user experience design expertise and support for the enterprise, which will allow him/her to work with many innovative groups across the company.
We seek a thought-leader, a problem-solver who can blend business, technical, and industry best practices and also sweat every fine detail when it comes to interaction design.
This is a very exciting opportunity for someone who wants to help shape the next generation of digital products for one of the world’s top brands. In fact, American Express has won the JD Power Award six years in a row, including “Best in Web Interaction” for the Credit Card Industry. This person will play a pivotal role in ensuring that trend continues.

- Help shape our best-in-class user experiences cross-device.

Approach projects with user-centered design (UCD), Lean UX methodologies in the execution of sketches, wireframes, high-fidelity mockups and interaction flows
*
Provide innovative solutions to simplify complex user journeys and information architecture.
*
Work closely with fellow creatives and developers to build out prototypes and the prototyping platform & process.
*
Be a passionate advocate for the user, ground ideas in data driven solutions by partnering with our customer research team to incorporate user insights and principles throughout the process.
*
Must be able to communicate and collaborate effectively with a smart and diverse team with an appetite to constructively debate.
Qualifications
Here are the skills and experiences we’re looking for. Do these describe you?
* Strong UX design portfolio with samples of projects across devices
* Understanding and experience with responsive, mobile, tablet UX design and interaction.
* Exceptional skills in, ideation, sketching, wireframing, task flows and information architecture.
* Track record for executing large-scale web and software application interface design.
* Expertise in human interface guidelines, standards, and best practices as they apply to platforms.
* Effective communication skills (both in conversation and in writing), especially focused on running collaborative workshops and articulating design strategies
* Familiarity in the prototyping capabilities of HTML, DHTML, and CSS; with iRise/Axure knowledge a plus.
* Expertise with design tools and software, most notably OmniGraffle, Photoshop, Illustrator etc.
