Within Global Marketing & Product Management group B2B products are the fastest growing segment of the business. By virtue of the emergence of new payment technologies and markets, American Express needs to be more flexible in responding to market forces. The Product Management team needs entrepreneurial, highly dynamic, and focused individuals that can drive incremental results in order to capture the significant marketplace opportunity. The combination of an expanded global footprint and exciting product evolution will make the next 12-24 months critical to the overall direction of the business.
GMPM is seeking a Product Manager to provide strategic thought leadership, drive innovative product design and project management for the re-platforming of our single use virtual B2B product, vPayment. This project will drive significant reengineering savings and impact topline growth by enabling expansion into new industries and geographies.
This new role will develop a best-in-class process for a client’s and merchant’s user experience from merchant settlement to client statementing and billing. The manager will provide business needs and usages to the technology team, update all relevant documentation and coordinate with any non-core functional team, as needed (legal, compliance, controllership).The successful candidate must work pragmatically within real-world constraints and solve business and process challenges within a cross-functional, collaborative work environment.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Responsible for all aspects of product management including strategy, roadmap, competitive analysis, etc.
- Management of a specific workstream including providing requirements, developing business process flows and validating test scripts
- Own workstream communication, planning and execution
- Leverage digital assets to transform functions within the business
- Support of Senior Management goals through upward communication, quick risk escalation, etc.
- Partner with Sales and Account Development to understand client needs and industry trends
- Build strong partnership relationships with New Product Development, Technology and all supporting delivery teams
- Challenge consensus thinking to develop innovative solutions to develop a best-in class offering
- Superior thought leadership and analytical abilities to identify business opportunities, define global strategies and solve business challenges
Qualifications
- Proven product management experience required, with an emphasis on leading cross-functional teams in successfully defining, developing and deploying strategic business and technical solutions
- Strong thought leadership including capacity to quickly understand critical linkages and business strategies
- Experience managing concurrent work streams. Strong project management and results driven mindset
- Ability to effectively collaborate/influence at all levels without having direct authority
- Exceptional interpersonal, relationship, and influence management skills that allow for close partnerships with many different constituents, inside and outside of Amex and across all levels
- Strong analytical skills with an ability to identify nonstandard solutions and act as a catalyst for change
- Proven organization skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple, and sometimes competing, priorities
- Technical aptitude
- Strong sense of urgency, commitment to deadlines and deliverables
- Demonstrated willingness to take initiative
- Proven ability to independently overcome obstacles and resolve complex problems
