We have an opportunity for a Senior Manager to join our Operational Risk Team in Fund Management in New York.

The Risk Management Group (RMG) is an independent, centralized unit responsible for assessing and monitoring risks across Macquarie. This includes market and liquidity risk, credit risk, compliance risk and operational risk. RMG personnel liaise closely with all operating areas to ensure risks are understood and properly managed.

Working within the group Operational Risk function, this role acts as the relationship manager to the Fund Management business as well as being part of the team supporting the sales and trading businesses on operational risk matters. The role will provide an independent view on the risk profile and act as an independent advisor to the Group Operational Risk Relationship Manager and the embedded Business Operational Risk Manager(s).

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Supporting Group Operational Risk Relationship Manager to the sales & trading and trading businesses (including Fixed Income, Commodities, F/X, Energy Trading, and Global Equities Markets) who is based in New York and directly supporting the fund management business.
  • Understand risk profile and key business processes and provide advice and challenge to businesses and embedded Business Operational Risk Manager(s). Review risk reporting, assessments, incidents, key risk indicators, projects and assurance activities.
  • Act as a source of advice and quality control on the implementation of the Operational Risk Management Framework.
  • Significant role in reviewing new products and businesses.
  • Act as a source of advice to the Global Sales and Trading Relationship Manager.
  • Provide training and awareness to businesses on key risk management policies.

Skills and experience required
  • Bachelor's degree a preference for a relevant post graduate qualification such as a graduate degree in Finance, CPA, CIA or CFA.
  • Demonstrate a practical and commercial understanding of Fund Management business and products through 7+ years in a similar role.
  • Experience with sales and trading products is an advantage.
  • Ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of operational risk and control principles in a financial services environment.
  • Lateral thinker with problem solving, consulting skills and an ability to grasp abstract concepts/complex situations. Comfortable interpreting and balancing commercial issues within the risk framework.
  • Strong relationship skills with the ability to gain buy-in, trust and understanding; ability to influence and negotiate with senior management.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to initiate and lead conversations with business leaders and risk management colleagues regarding anticipated and emerging issues. Confident presenter.
  • Strong written skills with experience in writing reports either directly for senior management and/or the board.
  • Experienced in leveraging a matrixed organization to deliver results.
  • Experience of a global organization with diverse cultural & regulatory demands would be advantageous.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic and results-driven environment.
