Wehave an opening for a talented electrophysiologist to join our BiochemicalPharmacology group as part of the small molecule drug discovery program in ourSouth San Francisco location. The successful candidate will be responsible for providingsupport for specific projects in theneuroscience and immunology indications using in vitro electrophysiologicaltechniques.  More specifically, theindividual will focus on developing, optimizing and validating protocols forligand and voltage-gated ion channel targets to evaluate the structure-activityrelationships (SAR) and mechanism-of-action of small molecules in the contextof multi-disciplinary project teams.  Inaddition, the individual will be expected to provide scientific guidance to theprosecution of ion channel small molecule targets, including assay development, assay cascades, and counterscreening strategies.  Leadership in employment or development of newtechnologies, including medium throughput electrophysiology equipment, is alsoexpected.  Close collaboration with ourmedicinal chemists, in vivo pharmacologists, and therapeutic area biologyexperts will be essential to success

Who You Are

A Ph.D. and/or post-doctoral training in the electrophysiology of ionchannels , with at least 2 years of industrial experience in generating SAR forsupport of small molecule drug discovery efforts for ion channel targets. Thecandidate should have experience in the development, validation, and executionof protocols for ligand and voltage-gated ion channels.  Experience in designing assay strategies tocapture appropriate leads is critical, as is experience with medium- to high-throughputelectrophysiology equipment and rigorous data analysis methods.  Individuals with strong leadership and communicationskills, and with experience participating in multi-disciplinary project teamsare encouraged to apply.
