Description
Financial Underwriting refers to an industry standard evaluation for unsecured commercial Lending by leveraging financial information to improve risk assessment and provide solutions to Clients that use our products for Cash Flow Management. We typically use this process to increase the spending capacity for our highest spenders in the portfolio who account for a very high concentration of our domestic business portfolio billings, playing a key role in the goals of the company. Global Limit increase and Reallocation are strategies designed to profitably drive significant incremental billed business from the larger small businesses in the OPEN charge portfolio.
This position resides in the OPEN Risk Customer Management area to oversee the development and execution of Financially Underwritten and Global Limit increase/reallocation strategies. Because this process is directed towards our high-spending segment, the role will have a direct impact in driving the growth of our domestic small business portfolio. The successful candidate will be responsible for the ongoing management of this small business portfolio and processes, in addition to driving and implementing various OPEN Customer Management strategies to increase profitable billings and manage asset quality.
Responsibilities will include:
- Monitor portfolio and operational trends, in addition to developing robust reporting mechanisms.
- Provide thought leadership to drive synergies between Financially Underwritten decisioning frameworks/processes and broader OPEN Customer Management strategies.
- Identify opportunities to growth profitable billings and optimize manual decision.
- Create transformational capabilities that meet spending customer needs in a timely fashion and deliver a superior customer experience.
Qualifications
This position requires strong analytical and communication skills, with an ability to interact with and influence colleagues and senior leaders in Risk Management, Operations, and Marketing across American Express. You will lead the creation of actionable risk analytics (e.g., identify and create relevant datasets, perform data analyses and synthesize relevant conclusions and present recommendations). This role requires good communication and relationship management skills, in addition to a dynamic and energetic approach to problem solving to create best in class Risk Management and Customer Experience. The incumbent will be required to work closely with multiple partners across Risk, Marketing, and Legal/Compliance & Technologies.
Preferred Additional:
- Deep understanding of card economics and key AXP systems
- Strong quantitative/analytical skills -Proven thought leadership and problem solving skills
- Tremendous drive and a will to win -Effective communication skills to work influentially with a diverse set of cross-functional partners
- Prior knowledge in commercial underwriting and ability to assess financial statements is a plus
Educational requirement:
- An MBA or an advanced degree (Masters/PhD) in a quantitative field (Finance, Economics, Math/Statistics, Operations Research, and Engineering) is preferred
