Department

This position reports to our Controls and Data Management Department in Houston, TX.

Responsibilities

• Is primarily responsible for leading the shop floor by ensuring material is constantly flowing through the shop.
• This position is responsible for managing the release of Production Orders to the shop floor based on part(s) availability and floor capacity.
• Identifies manufacturing errors, such as incorrect routings, broken processes, etc., and is proactive in solving problems.
• Maintains accountability for tracking and reporting status of multi-million dollar WIP inventory (Production Orders) to other groups, such as Accounting and Materials.
• Key participant in efforts to implement Lean Manufacturing principles.

Main Tasks

• Directs Shop Floor by prioritizing work load.
• Responsible for managing multi-million dollar WIP inventory.
• Held accountable for this inventory at annual WIP physical inventory.
• Proactive in identifying and resolving issues hindering the manufacturing process.
• Communicates issues to the highest level when schedule is in jeopardy of being missed in order to get priority placed on issue. Doesn’t stop pursuing issue until desired result is achieved; production back on schedule.
• Constantly assessing floor capacity and communicating with the team leaders and/or production managers to ensure proper resources are provided to support production. (Assists in scheduling overtime for the shop.)
• Key participant in leading Lean Manufacturing implementation. This includes conducting a daily production meeting at the Visual Management board, maintaining the schedule on the board and participating in Kaizens.
• Production Control will be a key leader in supporting and driving the implementation of this effort.
• Has the ability to influence others in order to achieve results, although they don’t report to this position.
• Must have a dynamic personality in order to work with a multitude of diverse personnel; bring people together to get the job done.
• Works closely with material planners to resolve material shortages, pen ding parts, part master errors, etc. Also, works with planners to resolve issues in order to alleviate potential production stoppage.
• Responsible for reporting production measurements, such as on-time start to production, etc., and uses this information to leverage other groups to change their behavior.
• Takes on challenges and is resilient to find resolutions.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:
• High school degree or G.E.D. BA or BS in Business Administration, Procurement, Operations, Engineering, or related field preferred. APICS certification of specialty training in Materials/Production Control is strongly desired.
• At least 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Must demonstrate strong negotiation skills, planning skills and strong interpersonal skills in order to interact with co-workers in a team-oriented environment.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced, high stress environment.
• PC skills including spreadsheet, word processing and SAP or similar ERP system experience required.
