Overview of Mediaroom (IPTV)
Mediaroom is the world's most deployed IPTV platform. Following the announcement of the acquisition of Mediaroom from Microsoft, Ericsson will be the leading provider of IPTV and multi-screen solutions with a market share of over 25%. Mediaroom-powered TV services are being offered by more than 40 of the world's leading operators, delivering services to more than eleven million consumer households equaling more than 22 million set top boxes deployed throughout the Americas, EMEA and APAC. Operator partners including AT&T, Deutsche Telekom and TELUS are already giving their subscribers the freedom to watch TV how they want, while gaining the most innovative ways to reach them wherever they are.
Ericsson's vision of the Networked Society foresees 50 billion devices to be connected via broadband, mobility and cloud. Future video distribution will have a similar impact on consumer behavior and consumption as mobile voice has had. This acquisition contributes to a leading position for Ericsson with more than 40 customers, serving over 11 million subscriber households. In addition, Ericsson will be powered with senior competence and some of the most talented people within the field of IPTV distribution. The global IPTV market is estimated to reach 76 million subscribers in 2013, growing to 105 million subscribers in 2015.
The total media solution portfolio of Ericsson in the TV and video space combined with a further increased focus on consumer needs will be the foundation for providing services to end users. The importance of video distribution capabilities for the customers and their consumers will be increasing as more and more LTE networks are deployed and filled with smartphone users.
Ericsson already sees that the ever-changing behaviors of TV consumers are evolving faster than ever. Speed of innovation and intelligent solutions drive consumer propositions in TV anywhere. This development will continue to fuel the industry as convergence becomes reality. The development requires content owners, broadcasters, TV service providers and operators to re-think their propositions.
This move builds on Ericsson's triple Emmy award-winning leadership in the media industry, providing its customers with a truly unique experience in TV anywhere spanning the entire media value chain from camera to consumer.
Role Summary/Responsibilities:
The purpose of the position is to provide customers with reliable technical solutions to the complex integration problems associated with business solutions built on the Mediaroom platform. This Engineer position focuses on the IPTV product Mediaroom® (IPTV = Internet Protocol Television). As a designated technical resource working with Mediaroom operators and partners, you will be minimally required to have solid technical expertise across Microsoft TV’s Mediaroom platform and all core product components like Windows Server, SQL Server, System Center tools, and strong troubleshooting skills overall with technical depth in at least one area of technology.
Candidates must have exceptional customer service, problem solving, and communication skills, and the ability to work in a team environment. Must have sufficient technical depth to communicate with development and other internal organizations at a peer level as well as convey technical concepts to non-technical individuals. Must possess the ability to work with minimal supervision and operate as a self-contained /driver within the operations team.
Roles and Responsibilities
· Software loading, configuration, integration, verification, and troubleshooting of existing solutions on a customer site or in a lab environment using Ericsson products, 3rd party, or customized packages.
· Providing ongoing customer support throughout implementation as well as driving new IS solutions development in order to meet the customer’s expectations.
· Drive business with the customer by finding new convergence opportunities based on expanding existing solutions as well as creating new ones.
· Attend and participate in customer meetings for specific solutions and different areas.
· Assist solution architects in customer requirement gathering and analysis
· Assist solution architects in the scoping for IPTV solutions the focus given to delivery of TV over Internet
· Lead the investigation and isolation of unique and challenging problems, collaborate with product development teams and other support groups to devise a plan for resolution that meets the customer’s needs.
· Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction, both external and internal customers.
· Delivery of support within predefined service level agreement.
· Define methods and process to lead both customers and internal resources through technical issue deconstruction and analysis.
· Report software bugs to product groups. Advise on potential software improvements during the design and pre-release process.
· Off-hours support, evening, and weekend shifts may be required. Travel of 10-30% may also be required.
Qualifications:
Required Skills, Behaviors, and Knowledge:
· English fluency both verbal and writing is essential
· Previous Mediaroom technical experience is desirable
· Works effectively in situations involving uncertainty, change, or lack of information.
· Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
· Self-starter with ability and ambition to work remotely, onsite with a specific customer for extended or dedicated periods of time.
· Ability to work across groups by setting mutual goals, ensuring clarity of roles, and working together in ways which enhance business effectiveness
· BS or MS in EE, CS, or CE or acceptable equivalent of post secondary education and experience
· 2 - 3 years previous experience working in software design, testing and integration
· Strong knowledge of IP networking and Internet technologies (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, Radius)
· Strong knowledge of network management and provisioning (XML, SNMP, Corba, LDAP, SOAP).
· Good knowledge of wireless technologies (call flow) and related protocols required
· Installation and configuration of servers, routers, and switches highly desired.
· Security and Authentication experience also highly desired
· Past Experience working with IPTV solutions - Mediaroom required
· Past Experience working with MPEG-4 and DRM standards desired
· Past Experience working with TV Distribution and Switching
· Solid working knowledge of Databases such as MySQL and Oracle desired
· Datacom experience is a plus.
· Has highly detailed, thorough understanding of the knowledge/skill in two or more of the following areas and is able to apply it with tremendous effectiveness when managing customer problems
· Windows Server (OS, AD, IIS, PKI, .Net Framework, Web-Services, Clustering technologies, Hyper-V),
· SQL Server,
· System Center tools (Operations Manager, Configuration Manager, Virtual Machine Manager),
· Troubleshooting Techniques and Tools (PSSDiag, DebugDiag, NetMon, Message Analyzer, Wireshark, IIS Logs, Event Logs, etc.)
