Description
This role sits in the global Corporate Affairs & Communications organization, which provides corporate communications and public affairs counsel and service to American Express Company and its individual business units. Specifically, this role supports the American Express Technology organization, which comprises more than 4,000 employees worldwide who provide technology solutions and support to address the evolving needs of customers, employees and partners.
The Manager, Public Affairs and Communications will work with members of the Technology Communications team, plus Technology leadership team members and external PR agency contacts, to execute media relations campaigns and tactics in support of Technology’s external communications plan. This role also will help deliver leadership communications and events supporting Technology’s strategy and goals.]
Responsibilities include:
- Develop and implement PR strategies and campaigns to support American Express Technology objectives for external communications, positioning American Express as a destination workplace for top technical talent and reinforcing our reputation as a technology innovator.
- Raise the digital presence and visibility of key Technology leaders via social media and involvement in influential industry events and conferences.
- Develop press releases, key messages, fact sheets and Q&A documents, as well as prepare spokespeople to participate in industry events and media opportunities.
- Measure and track success of PR programs and activities.
- Help develop and oversee production of strategic communications from the Chief Information Officer and other members of the Technology leadership team, including quarterly business updates, presentations and speeches, videos, organization announcements and other messages as needed.
- Help plan and produce events supporting Technology’s strategic goals, including town halls, leadership meetings, teleconferences and other face-to-face and virtual activities.
Qualifications
* Excellent written and verbal skills.
* Experience developing and implementing PR programs and social media strategies to support key business objectives of internal/external clients who deliver technology products and services.
* Excellent judgment.
* Strong analytical, strategic and creative skills.
* Strong relationship-building skills.
* Experience managing agency and vendor resources.
* Experience providing confident and persuasive counsel to clients.
* Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment that encourages innovation and entrepreneurial thinking.
* Proven ability to communicate complex technical topics to a variety of audiences, as well as the ability to quickly master new subject matter in a limited amount of time.
* 4+ years experience in a corporate or PR agency setting.
