Responsibilities:
The Packaging Engineer will have responsibility to ensure that Shell Lubricants are supplied to customers in packages which meet HSSE, functional, brand and marketing requirements at the lowest total cost of ownership. Additional the Packing Engineer will participate in and lead packaging innovation projects from their initiation, ensuring HSSE compliance, functional effectiveness and cost competitiveness. The Packaging Engineer will have responsibility to ensure that Shell Lubricants are supplied to customers in packages which meet HSSE, functional, brand and marketing requirements at the lowest total cost of ownership. Additional the Packing Engineer will participate in and lead packaging innovation projects from their initiation, ensuring HSSE compliance, functional effectiveness and cost competitiveness. Additional accountabilities include:
- Understand and apply all Shell HSSE requirements for package design, handling, stacking and lifting.
- Work within the post-consumer recycling guidelines when providing design parameters and consumer packaging choices.
- Lead implementation of packaging technical project initiatives by leading the Streamline PLM Pack process for new pack introduction and technical evaluations / qualifications.
- Create, design, develop and qualify new packaging materials.
- Manage the regional pack portfolio and ensure that the global product catalogue (GPC) content on packs is correct and complete.
- Supports for GSAP data preparation team related to pack codes.
- Identify obsolete and uncompetitive packs for removal from the portfolio.
- Identify and deliver region or local cost initiatives to reduce inbound materials costs (logistics optimization, handling best practices, standardization, etc.)
- Provide technical expertise and support to LOBPs on packaging and material handling best practices.
- Create Shell LQS Data Sheets for packaging specifications, and work with CP to assure the specifications are imbedded in supplier contracts.
- Write, maintain and communicate information on packaging specifications and standards to stakeholders.
- Develop and track KPIs to ensure that specifications and standards are being met by suppliers.
- Assure that suppliers meet agreed upon specifications and standards through various means, including quality audits.
- Provide input to and collaborate with C&P in the supplier tender process with respect to: supplier identification and qualification; plant capability; HSSE considerations; and total cost of ownership.
- Act as focal point for matters concerning packaging measures for anti-fraud and counterfeiting.
- Act as the focal point all environmental and legal issues on packaging including recycling and recovery and disposal of used materials.
- Act as a subject matter expert to help troubleshoot packaging issues for internal and external customers.
- Act as a focal point with customer service relating to address technical aspects related to packaging from customer issues and concerns.
- Benchmark internally and externally to discover and exploit best practices relating to packaging sustainability, specifications, and design.
- Participate on the Global Packaging Team (a virtual team of material technical managers).
- Provide coaching related to packaging technical issues.
- Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field (required); bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering (preferred).
- Minimum 3 (three) years experience in the lubricants or the packaging business.
- Proven understanding of packaging components, methods of manufacturing and quality standards (required).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
