Job : Physician, Spinal Cord Injury

Duties:
 
The VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS) Spinal Cord Injury Service line is seeking a physician with clinical expertise in Internal Medicine to provide care to Veterans with spinal cord injuries and disorders.
Must be board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
This position is located on the Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Unit within VA Puget Sound Health Care System.  The population service includes Veterans and active duty service members who meet the criteria of spinal cord injury or disorder as defined by VHA Handbook 1176.01.  The physician will demonstrate proficiency in practice, planning, and self-direction in goal setting for managing each Veteran’s medical and functional needs.
·         Engage in direct patient contact;
·         Maintain certification and licensure in Internal Medicine or an accredited Internal Medicine subspecialty;
·         Admit, evaluate, diagnose and treat Veterans appropriate to the specialty of SCI Medicine;
·         May also perform specialty procedures as delineated in their clinical privileges;
·         Functions independently as a member of the VA Puget Sound medical staff, with full clinical privileges;
·         Provides a full range of evaluations to diagnose and treat the SCI population;
·         Assumes complete professional responsibility for his/her clinical assessment findings, clinical decisions, and documentation;
·         Serves as an attending physician for inpatients on the SCI unit;
·         Provides outpatient primary care and specialty care in the SCI Outpatient Clinic, and provides consultation for other inpatients and outpatients with SCI;
·         Provides education to Veterans, families, and caregivers;
·         Serves as a clinical leader in emergencies;
·         Advocates for Veterans with SCI;
·         Provides clinical supervision and instruction to residents, medical students, and allied health professional students;
·         Provides education to professional staff;
·         Contributes to the academic mission of VA through scholarly work in the field of SCI Medicine or Internal Medicine, including, but not limited to, participation in local, regional or national level conferences and events or scholarly publication;
·         Other duties as assigned.

Schedule: Monday – Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Inpatient.
Physical Requirements -This position will require walking, standing or sitting for periods of up to or beyond 10-12 hours per day. Prolonged periods of sitting while performing procedures, prolonged use of hands in delivery of clinical treatment and in operating computer mouse and keyboard. In addition, the incumbent will need to bend, lift and turn.
