Description
The Finance Position within the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Compliance Group plays a leading role in developing and implementing global strategy for the SOX Program at AXP. The role includes evaluating Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR) for AXP to ensure that risks inherent to financial reporting activities are managed through an effective and efficient internal control structure, developing new and enhancing existing test plans for ICFR, and driving numerous initiatives that will enhance AXP’s ICFR.

Responsibilities Include:
- Assess financial reporting risk and recommend internal controls to successfully mitigate risk.
- Assist with annual financial statement risk assessment and SOX scope determination.
- Design SOX control test plans related to internal control over financial reporting.
- Evaluate operating effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting and recommend improvements, as needed.
- Coordinate with enterprise-wide Operational Risk teams, Controllers and Process Owners.
- Be seen as a SOX subject matter expert; provide advice and guidance to business partners on SOX and financial reporting risk.
- Develop training programs.
- Perform special projects and presentations.

Qualifications
- 4-6 years relevant financial reporting risk and SOX experience
- Strong understanding of COSO framework, risk assessment practices and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Act (specifically SOX 404 and SOX 302).
- Subject matter expert in financial reporting risk and internal control evaluation.
- Proficient in accounting or finance.
- Solid understanding of business process flows.
- Must display a working knowledge of, and an ability to identify and recommend effective internal controls.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to convey clear insight and thought leadership; strong presentation skills.
- Strong team player.
- Results driven and ability to lead, influence without authority, and prioritize.
- Self-motivator with the ability to handle multiple work streams and ad-hoc tasks simultaneously.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Degree in Accounting/Finance.
- CPA or equivalent degree considered a strong plus.
