electrical engineering activities to specify, design, develop and test
innovative sensing systems.
The Sensing Hardware team develops cutting-edge sensing solutions and
technologies that are central to Apple’s products, including the iPhone,
iPad, MacBooks, and more. The Sensing Hardware team features a
collaborative and hands-on environment that fosters engineering
excellence, thoroughness, creativity, and innovation. Invention, IP and
patent creation is expected and supported. Pushing the envelope to
design and ship innovative products with best-in-class technologies and
user experiences is the main goal of this team at Apple.
Key Qualifications
- Understand design trade-offs between sensor performance spec, applications, non-ideality of the sensor and manufacturability
- Strong electrical engineering background in capacitive sensing, signal processing, digital interface, PCB design and prototyping, and filter design areas
- Experience in taking ASIC or MEMS design from spec to product
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and solid teamwork and leadership skills
- Proficiency in MATLAB, SPICE, or similar simulation and modeling tools
- Experience with MEMS technology, MEMS reliability, and mass production environment is a plus
- Familiar with JMP or similar statistical tool is a plus
- Expertise in Finite Element Analysis is a plus

Key
Responsibilities
Identify, create and document new sensing system metrics and
specifications that deliver performance that matter to customer
perception
Scope new sensing technologies and proof-of-concept investigations
Interact with suppliers and drive sensor designs to enable new or
improved user experience
Define sensor requirements, verification plan, review sensing system
design and qualification process
Analyze trade-offs among performance, manufacturability and schedule
Contribute technical assessments to strategic decision-making relating
to technology and investments
Business travel to support product development
Education
M.S./Ph. D in Electrical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering or industry experience equivalent.
