Senior Instrumentation TechnicianTo provide instrumentation support for Pharma Technical Development Organization at the South San Francisco facility. Conduct diagnostics, repairs, and modifications of industrial process control instrumentation. Assist with engineering and evaluation of new instrumentation and process control systems. Prepare and organize technical documentation and operational procedures.
Responsibilities:
-Install, calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and modify process control instrumentation, electronic, electromechanical, and pneumatic control devices or systems for process development applications.
-Ensure all process systems and associated subsystems are operated and maintained in the following manner:
-All instrument calibrations are performed at the appropriate interval and completed by the assigned due date.
-All equipment operation is in accordance with Federal, State, Local, and Genentech regulations, procedures, and policies.
-Ensure/maintain all process equipment and areas in a constant state of inspection readiness; specifically, but not limited to, the following:
-Cleanliness
-Personnel and equipment Safety
-Area maintained in an organized fashion.
-Continuously evaluate the operation of all process systems and associated subsystems. Identify specific process improvement needs and provide recommendations for system upgrades.
-Continuously evaluate all calibration Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for accuracy and applicability. Submit appropriate change requests to correct any deficiencies discovered. Create new SOPs or Master Data Templates (MDTs) and procedures equipment/system related.
-Collect and organize technical data from equipment manufacturers, equipment users and Engineering personnel. Assist with identification, purchase of new instruments and spare parts.
-Assist with design and perform evaluations of new instrumentation, technologies as well as control system start up and commissioning as required.
-Program/configure Programmable Logic Computers (PLC), microprocessor-based controllers, DeltaV and data loggers.
-Work in close proximity to hazardous chemicals, high and low temperature liquids, high-pressure liquids and gases, steam, and moving machinery/equipment.
-Review and complete work orders within the CMMS and CalMan Calibration Manager.
-Follows established safety and environmental guidelines and procedures for all work performed. Immediately reports safety and environmental incidents including injuries, illnesses, near misses, and safety suggestions. Fosters a positive safety culture in which no one gets hurt.
Who You Are
Requirements:-Possess a thorough knowledge of the fundamental operating principles of industrial process instrumentation and systems.
-Be proficient in ISA standards and practices for instrumentation.
-A thorough knowledge of PID control theories and techniques, relay ladder logic and programmable controllers.
-A practical knowledge of computer-aided manufacturing automation.
-The ability to read and interpret engineering documents.
-Advanced documentation skills to ensure project files and system documentation is maintained.
-Practical understanding of OSHA, NEC, State and Federal regulations as applied to the system equipment and operation.
-Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Filemaker Pro, and various Allen-Bradley VFD and PLC programs.
-Work Safely in an environment containing hazardous chemicals, high and low temperature liquids, and gases, steam, and moving machinery.
-Ability to read and understand Piping and Instrument Diagrams, work from Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and have basic computer skills using word processors, spreadsheets, databases, and email.
-Perform instrument calibrations according to Standard Operating Procedures.
-Must be detailed oriented and demonstrate good record keeping practices..
-Demonstrate effective written communication skills and the utilization of the SAP work order system and CalMan Calibration Manager.
-Familiar with DeltaV, RSLogix and Foundation Fieldbus applications.
-Ability to work with little or no supervision.
Job Qualifications:
-Completion of an Instrumentation or Industrial Electronics (2 year) curriculum at a technical school, or an Associate degree in a related science or Engineering major plus substantial relevant on-the-job training.
-3 years’ experience in process instrumentation and control and/or analytical instrumentation or a closely related job.
-Thorough knowledge of the fundamental operating principles of industrial process instrumentation and systems.
-Must be proficient in ISA standards and practices for instrumentation.
-Practical knowledge of PID control theories and techniques.
-Practical knowledge of relay ladder logic and programmable controllers.
-Practical knowledge of computer-aided manufacturing automation.
-Ability to read and interpret engineering documents.
-Must have good oral and written communication skills.
-Must be able to work different shifts with little to no direct supervision
