The Manufacturing Engineer will demonstrate accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives. In this role you will integrate and develop processes that meet business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within functional areas of expertise, be involved in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall business strategy.
The Manufacturing Engineer will work with our domestic and international supply base on improving producibility on manufacturing processes, leading to improvements in cost, quality, cycle, and/or delivery. You will partner with design and sourcing on new hardware/new programs, identify future technologies or processes that could improve manufacturing methods and provide feedback to technology development organizations. You will work on new engine programs, estimating costs and recommending the best design-for-manufacturability. You will work closely with Shops, Suppliers, Process Experts, Design Engineering, and Advanced Manufacturing Methods Teams. The position will be part of a team participating in a self-directed work force environment and should excel in that environment. You will be co-located with an experienced manufacturing engineering team, as well as your sourcing customers. In addition, you will:
  • Identify the most cost-effective process to manufacture parts
  • Utilize your experience in costing and the pricing of hardware and materials
  • Utilize your ability to drive process and productivity improvement initiatives
  • Utilize your experience in machining or fabrication
  • Utilize your knowledge in associated special processes including heat treat, joining (weld/braze etc.)
  • Exercise you ability to read blueprints
  • Design and build / procure necessary tooling
  • Conduct cost / benefit analysis for changes to processes and/or equipment
  • Drive Process Improvement / Cycle Reduction initiatives and drive productivity improvements via process changes or improvements
  • Identify and reduce sources of labor efficiency variations
  • Identify and reduce product quality issues caused by process variation
  • Lead New Technology Initiatives (NTI) and share best practices with other locations
  • Utilize lean-manufacturing principles and participate in action workouts to improve process capability, reduce overall costs and increase capacity
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College or University
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing role
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in reading and understanding technical drawings and blueprints
    Eligibility Requirements:
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% of the time as required
  • GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing or operations
  • Previous manufacturing experience in aerospace or industrial manufacturing business
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Working knowledge of aerospace materials
  • Strong project management skills and success in leading cross-functional teams
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and specifications
  • Prior manufacturing process improvement accomplishments
  • Prior exposure to and knowledge of Lean Manufacturing
  • JMO or JOLP / OMLP Graduate
  • Six Sigma training
