Major Duties:
· The incumbent works on the development, implementation and management of Information Technology (IT) processing systems networked together in both local and wide area networks and interfaced to mainframe computers.
· Works in a multi-vendor IT environment supporting multi-user computer systems.
· The incumbent demonstrates trustworthiness, care and discretion when handling sensitive data.
· The incumbent will protect printed and electronic files containing sensitive data from unauthorized release, loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion.
· The incumbent will follow applicable Federal, VA and local regulations, instructions, policies and procedures regarding the use of sensitive data.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EVALUATIONS
Qualifications Required:
To qualify for this position applicants must meet all requirements by Friday, December 06, 2013:Time-in-grade:
GS-07: 52 weeks at the GS-05 or equivalent
GS-09: 52 weeks at the GS-07 or equivalent
In accordance with the Operating Manual for Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Individual Occupational Requirements for Information Technology Management Series, GS-2210; candidates must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
GS-07: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level.
GS-09: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level.
Specialized Experience is experience that demonstrated accomplishment of computer project assignments that required a range of knowledge of computer requirements and techniques. For example, assignments would show, on the basis of general design criteria provided, experience in developing modifications to parts of a system that required significant revisions in the logic or techniques used in the original development; Knowledge of the customary approaches, techniques, and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization; Planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls; and Adaptation of guidelines or precedents to the needs of the assignment.
Substitution of Education for Experience:
GS-07: One full year of progressively higher level graduate education, or bachelor's or equivalent degree with superior academic achievement (3.0 and higher) in computer science or in an IT related field which provided me with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.
GS-09: Master's or equivalent graduate degree, or two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education, or two full years of progressively higher level education. Major field of study must have been computer science, information science, information systems management, mathematics, statistics, operations research, or engineering, or course work that required the development or adaptation of computer programs and systems and provided knowledge equivalent to a major in the computer field.

Physical Requirements: The Information Technology Specialist work requires walking, bending, stooping, and lifting of equipment. Duties may require lifting, moving and carrying computer equipment such as; PCs, monitors, printer and other peripheral IT devices differing in weight up to 50 lbs. The work also involves some cable pulling for additional circuit installs.
