A Senior Technical Writer at GE Global Research
is responsible for defining, designing, and developing end-user
documentation such as online Help, user manuals, training materials, and
other technical publications for various software projects.
The
experienced writer will work independently and cohesively with
cross-functional business teams within GE to deliver high quality
documentation on time. Must have considerable experience writing,
maintaining and updating documentation such as User, Installation,
Configuration, Reference and API guides; Release Notes, Online Help and
Wikis.
Design, develop, and deliver product documentation for engineering
products including product manuals, online help, training materials,
instruction cards, and data sheets according to published procedures
and style guides.
In this role, you will:
Turn complex technical content into concise, easy-to-understand, end-user documentation for a target audience
Work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, Agile development environment
Develop re-usable, single source content
Design, develop, and deliver product demonstration modules
Work as part of a global team, working with overseas counterparts
Ensure documentation tasks related to user stories are
delivered as part of the definition of “Done” for every Agile iteration
by working closely with the developers, testers, the product owner and
the commercial leads
Work with the developers to ensure that all software UI
messages are clear, grammatically correct, accurate, and written in
simplified English.
Assess and communicate technical or other risks early and suggest mitigation options to the stakeholders
Assess documentation needs and scope the appropriate set of deliverables within required timelines and quality standards.
Work closely with cross-functional teams such as
Engineering, Product Management, Product Architects, Marketing, Service
and Support, Operations, and Quality
Facilitate translation for technical documentation.
Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communication, Engineering or Science, or equivalent experience
Minimum of 8 years of experience in Technical writing or
e-Learning with exposure to software engineering applications in diverse
industries
Eligibility Requirements:
Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. GE may
agree to sponsor an individual for an employment visa now or in the
future if there is a shortage of individuals with particular skills
Must be willing to work out of an office located in San Ramon, CA
Must be willing to travel

Familiarity or experience with authoring tools like MadCap

Familiarity with basic XML concepts and single sourcing
Minimum of 1 year of exposure to Agile development environment
Highly self-motivated, results driven individual with a proven track record in technical writing
Demonstrated knowledge of Help systems, electronic printing and publishing
Demonstrated skill in graphical presentations or instructional design
Strong communication skills (both written and oral)
Demonstrated ability to work well with culturally diverse and global teams
