We’re currently seeking qualified candidates to join our team in the position of: Accessioning Tech II Position Summary: Provide laboratory support by assisting the technical staff, physicians and clinical services coordinators. Perform tasks accurately and on schedule. Know and follow all safety procedures and be able to respond appropriately. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen labeling, handling, preservation or fixation, processing or preparation, and transportation and storage of specimens. May be required to assist in preventative maintenance and troubleshooting. May be required to assist in the performance of quality control procedures. Document all quality control activities. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications. May be required to prepare and store reagents. May be required to transcribe results that have been previously recorded, either manually by a physician or licensed personnel, or automatically by a testing instrument. Follow established laboratory procedures for the use of mechanical or electronic instruments used for the processing of specimens. Be capable of identifying problems related to specimen processing and immediately notify the general supervisor, technical supervisor, or director. Open shipping packages containing human medical specimens. Accurate transcription of handwritten and printed documentation and patient and test information onto worksheets and into the laboratory information system. Enter relevant patient and test information into the laboratory computer information system using computer keyboard and mouse. Prepare and stain smears of blood and bone marrow on glass microscope slides. Identify and select small particles contained within such specimens. Complete relevant information on send-out referral lab forms. File and retrieve stained microscope slides using the slide storage system. Scan documentation into computer document management system. Safely Dispose of old specimens including blood and bone marrow according to established process. Maintain inventory reports and logs. Assist with Lab QA metrics and reporting. Fill tubes and bottles with specified solutions and apply identification labels. Arrange specimens and samples on trays/racks to be placed in incubators and refrigerators. Deliver supplies and laboratory specimens to designated work areas. Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen labeling, handling, preservation or fixation, processing or preparation, and transportation and storage of specimens. Assist in the performance of quality control procedures. May assist in preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of Hematek Slide stainer, Leica coverslipper, or Sakura Prisma stainer as assigned. May participate in training of new employees as assigned. May belong to an accessioning “special team” (requires demonstration of impeccable accuracy and detail) as assigned. | |
| Education: High school diploma or general education degeree (GED). Bachelors’ degree in science is a plus. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
