Description

 
As a Systems Engineer, you will provide technical assistance for software pre-sale activities within the state & local government segment. You will creatively apply business intelligence applications to help solve business problems and communicate these approaches to different business audiences in state and local government.  You will also prepare prototype solutions and presentations based on opportunity analysis; develop and present customized demonstrations for accounts; work with sales staff to outline available products and leverage sales opportunities; plan and implement in conjunction with the Account Executive; and perform other duties as assigned.

You will need to have a demonstrated ability to detect and understand the customer's business needs; articulate the value of our solutions and offerings; and identify appropriate applications, tools, and solutions.

Qualifications

 
Essential
  • Bachelor's degree (or higher), preferably in Business, Computer Science, statistics, applied mathematics, or a related quantitative field with:
  • Five years of experience in technical sales, marketing, technical support, information systems, or a related area of expertise including three years of programming in a high-level language or developing SAS applications with at least two interactive operating systems supported by SAS.
  • Public speaking experience, presentation experience
  • Ability to travel as business needs require (avg. 30-50%)
  • Self-starter who is motivated to constantly learn new concepts and technologies
  • Work Location of the Western United States
Additional
  • Familiarity with data mining techniques
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated project leadership skills
  • Ability to conduct customer prototypes and product demonstrations using SAS software
  • Ability to identify government challenges and opportunities that can be addressed by SAS software and effectively articulate the SAS solution to customers
  • Ability to work and learn independently and as part of a team
Preferences
  • Previous pre-sales experience in the software industry
  • Previous selling to or working within State or Local Government
  • Hands-on knowledge of business intelligence and/or data warehousing/ETL software
  • Experience with analytic and business approaches related to fraud detection
  • Experience with Link or Social Network Analysis (e.g., Detica, I2 and other related software)
  • Hands-on knowledge of business intelligence, data warehousing/ETL software or SAS analytics
  • Preferred work location of Denver, Phoenix and Irvine
