Description
American Express is looking for a high performing Business Strategy Senior Manager for an entrepreneurial role within the Enterprise Growth Strategy and Innovation organization. This high energy team is focused on identifying and articulating how American Express should participate in the emerging payments landscape, optimizing the current prepaid and digital product portfolio, and evaluating new products and businesses in which American Express should participate/ offer. This group has a laser focus on providing affordable financial products and services to the currently underserved market. The Business Strategy Senior Manager will help develop the thought leadership and structure of our roadmap in the emerging payments space. The incumbent must resourcefully develop a deep understanding of the complex and rapidly changing competitive payments landscape, and incorporate this into shaping a clear set of short term and long term business goals for American Express. The Senior Manager will evaluate new markets and evolving industry models and structures to help set the strategic agenda. He/ she will partner with leaders across Enterprise Growth to identify and develop new growth opportunities. In addition, he/ she will partner with external partners in order to position American Express as a thought leader in the financial inclusion and emerging payments landscape. The role requires enthusiasm for technology and commerce as well as a passion for financial inclusion and the role it will play in driving scale for American Express.

Responsibilities:
- Drive innovative thinking to better meet consumer needs with American Express products, with emphasis on our portfolio of prepaid and digital products
- Track potentially disruptive technologies and business models, understand their impact to the payments landscape, and lead our strategic response
- Analyze industry trends, competitive threats, expansion opportunities, and internal performance across prepaid and digital products for the short term and long term planning needs of the organization
- Deliver data-driven insights to support actionable strategic direction, prioritization, and communication
- Help lead the formulation, thought leadership, framing, and articulation around how to develop the roadmap and business goals, both near and long term, to support AXP’s growth objectives
- Work closely with leaders in US Payment Options, International Payment Options, and Product Development and Management to craft roadmaps, strategies, and identify new opportunities
- Partner closely with external business partners in order to position American Express as a thought leader in this space
- Prepare communications to senior management, including c-level management, with the ability to make and influence recommendations

Qualifications

Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of experience at a leading management consulting firm/ top tier investment bank or meaningful corporate strategy/ digital strategy experience
- Exceptional problem solving skills (issue identification, problem structuring, analysis, development of actionable recommendations) developed through management consulting or similar strategy engagements
- Ability to adapt to fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment; think and respond quickly while maintaining attention to detail
- Passionate about learning the latest digital trends, innovations, and technologies that shape the payments industry as well as enthusiasm to drive Enterprise Growth’s mission of financial inclusion
- Demonstrated ability to create results on project teams
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to influence given the sensitivity, complexity, and impact of the work
- Positive, professional, and responsible attitude
- Independent and self-directed yet also team oriented; self-starter
