Real Estate & Franchise Accounting (REF) records transactions for over 2,000 franchisees and more than 15,000 restaurants in the U.S. and Canada.  REF is responsible for the calculation and billing of rents and service fees, as well as construction payments and related fixed asset accounting processes.  REF helps account for and manages over $10 billion in fixed assets.  REF provides lease and contract accounting services, and supports the U.S. and Canada initiatives.   Key customers include the Division and Regional Finance and Development Teams, the U.S. and Canada Controller Groups, the Corporate Controller Group, Franchising, Legal, Corporate Tax, and Asset Management.
REF has an exciting opportunity for a Canada Team Manager to develop an array of knowledge related to the real estate accounting activities supporting the Canadian business and interacting with disciplines both within and outside of Accounting.  This includes partnering with the Real Estate and Legal Departments in processing and recording landlord payments relating to McDonald’s leased locations, computing rents for franchisee leases and McOpCo, reporting monthly sales, monitoring of accounts receivables, supporting and monitoring the construction and fixed asset accounting processes, and reviewing the accuracy of the trial balance.  The position must ensure SOX and company policy compliance for various processes related to lease accounting, accounts receivable, and real estate accounting and will participate and/or lead cross-functional projects.  The position requires strong leadership abilities being responsible for managing and developing 10 staff members, 5 direct reports and 5 indirect reports.  Key customers include the Canada Legal Department, Canada Asset Management, Canada Corporate and Regional Finance and Development Teams, and the Corporate  Controller Group.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting Required
  • CPA preferred
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of qualifying accounting work experience
  • Proven experience in leading and development of staff
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and project management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, with a strong customer service focus
  • Computer proficiency in Excel, Word, and Power Point
