There are a lot of great things happening at DIRECTV! To support these exciting changes, we need someone who is technically savvy and motivated to join our Broadcast Operations Team in Long Beach, California.  In this role, you will have a front line impact on day to day management of applications and systems that affect DIRECTV’s delivery of entertainment and support to over 30 million DIRECTV subscribers.
 
The operations aspect of the role revolves around a cultivating a deep technical understanding of interdependent systems used to deliver services. The collaborative aspect of the role brings together company knowledge from each specialty to support world-class programming for our customers.
 
Day to Day for the Broadcast Systems Analyst, Technical Operator may look like this:
·         Immediate restoration and recovery of services using all available instrumentation, processes or resources.
·         Verification, monitoring & troubleshooting of issues involving video & audio signal paths, data services (i.e., video-on-demand, streaming) and related elements, such as mobile apps.
·         Assume lead role during service impacting incidents, which includes leading escalation calls/notifications to stakeholders across the organization; prioritizing alerts and triages; driving calls to resolution and ensuring issues are appropriately documented.
·         Make recommendations to improve services, mitigate risks, improve processes, and/or allocation of resources.
·         Proactively seek continuous process improvements to further reduce service restoral metrics.
·         Continuously assess the health of monitoring and control systems, identifying service-impacting anomalies and alerting appropriate personnel as needed
·         Coordinate operational change requests and communicate these changes across work groups.
·         Maintain and develop relevant knowledge of signal delivery, related broadcast elements or streaming systems.
·         Maintain accurate and detailed incident entries regarding shift activities & providing status as needed.
 
Year 1 Goals:
·         Demonstrate progressive/increasing understanding of our core services, process workflows, and mission critical applications such as: automation, DMACS, incident/change management, traffic, VoD.
·         Demonstrate ability to trouble shoot problems of increasing complexity in a consistent, proactive, and collaborative.

Qualifications

  
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in IT Systems, Broadcast, or Engineering related discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years related experience in systems support, broadcast environment, network operations and/or related industry required supporting Tier I and Tier II level troubleshooting.
  • Prior experience with information technology systems, infrastructure monitoring, application support, networking concepts and ITIL methodologies, i.e. Splunk, Hostmonitor, Windows/Linux OS
  • Automation experience is a huge plus.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to quickly analyze relationships between problem components using signal flow as primary reference. 
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, adapt, multi-task and make decisions in a fast-paced, high stress environment.
  • Strong background in computer and networking concepts.
  • Ability to learn broadcast monitoring and control applications, as well as using various broadcast equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills: verbal, written, and technical.
  • Highly organized, detail oriented & works with minimal supervision.
 
Unique Requirements of the Role:
  • Must be willing to work flexible shifts to support a 24/7 365 facility
  • Must be willing to work holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed.
  • Bilingual in conversational Spanish required.
