Description
The Internal Audit Group (IAG) delivers independent and objective assurance services that support management in striking the balance between risk and controls, and help the Board of Directors fulfill its governance responsibilities. We perform independent process, financial, compliance, and technology audits, consistent with professional standards. IAG also reviews specific operations or processes at the request of the Audit Committee or Senior Leadership.
The Risk Management audit team within IAG focuses on audit reviews of the Company’s risk management processes and strategies including underwriting, credit risk management, customer management, model validation, enterprise risk management and operational risk management. Our risk auditors assess controls related to end to end risk management activities throughout the enterprise. This position will support the IAG-Risk audit team and execute risk management audit reviews in the areas of credit risk management for consumer and institutional risk portfolios.
Key areas of responsibility include executing and managing global integrated audits of risk management processes of American Express Company and subsidiaries, specifically for Credit Risk Management, Operational Risk Management, Enterprise Risk Management, and Model Risk Management.
The Candidate will be expected to:
- Support the Audit Director in the execution and management of multiple simultaneous risk management audits by assessing the design and operating effectiveness of controls related to consumer and institutional underwriting, risk modeling (including model validation), operational risk management, enterprise risk management, stress testing methodologies, and economic capital computation.
- Quickly develop a strong understanding of AXP’s business model, including products, services, and organizational units.
- Identify and calibrate the primary sources of risk, and design effective audit tests to assess the control environment.
- Further develop and manage the current business monitoring capabilities and program for IAG-Risk portfolio.
- Ensure effective and efficient execution of audits in conformance with professional and department standards, budgets, and timelines.
- Enable effective assessment of controls, and delivery of high-quality audit findings.
- Utilize the department’s electronic work papers and other tools.
- Effectively handle larger and more challenging workloads on successive assignments.
- Assist with validation of remediation activities and projects in place to address regulatory gaps. This will involve reviewing applicable regulatory requirements, assessing/ confirming compliance gaps, and evaluating management’s remediation activities to confirm that the regulatory requirements are effectively addressed.
- Effectively teach, mentor, and develop team members in all aspects of professional development.
Qualifications
- 6 or more years in the banking industry within an internal audit or risk management function
- Experience with retail and wholesale credit underwriting, developing or reviewing credit (PD models), finance, or operational risk models
- Strong understanding of Basel II and III frameworks, with experience assessing AMA and IRB approaches
- Experience with ICAAP, including the Comprehensive Capital Adequacy and Review
- Experience managing, leading, and executing globally integrated audits involving regulatory compliance related to risk management practices for consumer financial products and services.
- Ability to effectively integrate business, operational, technological, and financial components in audit work.
- Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions to complex control, financial, or technical Issues.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to deliver high quality, actionable risk/control-related feedback on a variety of complex issues to line and executive management.
- Demonstrated ability to manage people in a way that inspires, develops, and delivers results
- Ability and willingness to travel.
- Masters Degree or equivalent advanced degree In Finance, Economics, or Risk Management.
