Key Qualifications
- The substrate Global Commodity Manager (GCM) position requires a solid technical background, preferably with core knowledge in semiconductor packaging and manufacturing. Complementing the technical expertize should be a solid understanding of, and interest in, critical commercial aspects such as market dynamics, competitive behavior, negotiation, contracts, pricing, and risk mitigation. An ideal candidate should have:
- ▪Strong technical skills. EE/ME majors or experience in semiconductor packaging/assembly strongly preferred;
- ▪Solid understanding of flip chip package technologies such as ABF/prepreg substrate design rules, thermal mechanical requirements and stacked thin die;
- ▪Business acumen with a good understanding of operations/supply chain management;
- ▪Outstanding analytical capabilities;
- ▪Excellent written and oral communication skills; Ability to work cross functionally in a dynamic environment; Demonstrated cross functional leadership;
- ▪High level of personal and professional integrity;
- ▪Strong work ethic with a high degree of flexibility;
Description
The
GCM is positioned at the interface between Apple’s engineering teams
and the industries that supply core component technologies. In this
role, the individual is responsible for developing and executing
sourcing strategies as well as recommending product innovations, supply
chain improvements and cost reductions based on new technologies.
A successful candidate will:
Act as resident expert for the assigned commodity, semiconductor
packaging.
Work closely with Apple’s assembly process- and substrate design
engineers to understand new market trends and associated trade offs
between technical and operational benefits.
Develop a nuanced understanding of the semiconductor packaging landscape
in order to forecast industry trends and gauge emerging competitive
forces. Identify changes in buyer and supplier power within core
materials markets and leverage competitive dynamics to Apple’s
advantage.
Effectively interface with suppliers to negotiate optimal terms for
sourcing. Understand the tradeoffs between cost, volume, and quality in
order to strike agreements that meet Apple’s performance criteria and
secure long term supply continuity.
Education
Requires B.S. degree plus 6 years related experience or M.S. degree plus 4 related years experience.
Additional Requirements
Willingness to travel internationally (10% - 15%)
