Job summary:
Global regulatory reform is a key driver of change in banking and capital markets, with far-reaching implications for how EY’s clients do business now and in the years to come. Working directly with the Global Banking & Capital Markets (BCM) Regulatory Network Leader, the wider BCM Regulatory Network and the sector’s Lead Analyst, this role is responsible for assessing the implications of new regulations and analyzing the impact on banks’ business and operating models.
 
In collaboration with the BCM Regulatory Network members and analyst colleagues across the firm, the Senior Analyst will compare and contrast how different regulatory environments impact clients, operations and strategy. 
 
Building on that analysis, this person will be responsible for the development and execution of strategic thought leadership and market insight initiatives to support the firm’s clients and to strengthen EY’s position in the market. The Senior Analyst will also be accountable for ensuring effective tracking and monitoring of regulatory change and for the production of internal alerts on key regulatory change items globally.
 
This role requires the ability to combine strong analytic skills and a strategic mind-set with real-world perspective driven by both the client’s experience and broader marketplace drivers. Given the industry-wide implications of regulatory change, this role also calls for creativity in considering what that change might mean for the future of banking. This is a new role within the firm and provides the right candidate with the opportunity to shape how it evolves.
 
The Senior Analyst will also supervise and collaborate with regulatory analysts focused on the Americas, European and Asia-Pacific markets.
 
Essential functions of the job:
  • Leverage a deep knowledge and understanding of the banking industry and work in conjunction with the BCM leadership to prepare insightful analysis on regulatory changes and trends, as well as the implications of those changes for EY and for the firm’s clients.
  • Develop insights into the impact of banking regulation, and be able to contrast different regulatory environments. 
  • Support client meetings and key strategic planning activities and major initiatives (including pursuits). Help map issues to existing EY services and identify new opportunities.
  • Oversee tools to track and analyze regulatory developments
  • Proactively alert BCM Regulatory leadership regarding tactical and strategic changes, and assesses the impact of those changes on internal strategies and plans.
  • Collaborate with the Global BCM Regulatory Network and provide operational support to the Network, particularly in relation to the quarterly meetings that take place in key global locations.
 
Analytical/decision making responsibilities:
  • Superior ability to analyze information coherently and succinctly. Able to bring together a variety of perspectives and sources and develop a compelling point of view that drives results.
  • Talented at understanding multiple business drivers
  • Confidence in developing a point of view, recommendations and insights regarding the future outlook of the industry. Skilled in identifying trends that will translate into key market-facing initiatives for the firm.
  • Demonstrate an ability to use quantitative methodologies to review data inputs to produce analytic insights.
  • Adept at implementing strategically sound analytic methodologies and skilled in coaching less-experienced team members to improve their skills.
 
 
Supervision responsibilities:
  • As well as supervising a small team, the Senior Analyst must also work with, motivate, and cultivate a high-performance teaming environment with the broader analyst community as required for specific projects.
  • Comfortable operating in a global, multi-cultural and virtual environment.
  • May be asked to serve as counselor or mentor to less experienced or lower ranking analysts and specialists.

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • Advanced degree or related experience preferred
 
Experience:
  • 8-10 years experience in strategy, business analysis, equity analysis, bank regulation, management consulting, or business performance advising with banks – either in-house at a bank or regulator or as a consultant
 
Knowledge and skills requirements:
  • Excellent knowledge of the global banking industry, with demonstrable experience of dealing with banking regulation.
  • Comfortable with big picture thinking, able to think and articulate a point-of-view
  • Considerable experience working at a senior level in a fast moving client-driven environment
  • Strong executive-level presentation skills; demonstrated ability to interface with all levels of account leadership
  • Proven ability to effectively supervise and lead a small team of expert analysts
  • Excellent teamwork, relationship-building and leadership skills and the ability to organize and manage a virtual team
  • Understanding of internal customers and external clients' needs and concerns; ability to respond with a sense of urgency
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proven ability to explain complex concepts in a crisp, clear, concise and graphic rich style
  • Ability to take ownership for delivering projects with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Advanced skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Lotus Notes
