Vice President Tax Manager
Responsible for planning, preparing and analyzing local, state and federal tax returns for locations in approximately 48 states. Effectively manage tax risks and liabilities associated with intricate business transactions such as mergers and acquisitions, and initial public offerings. Improve internal controls for recording and tracking income, property taxes and other tax information. Research and develop tax saving strategies and reconcile tax data on financial statements.          Working with external Tax Preparation Team, manage the tax function and the filing of tax returns and related reports to ensure organization compliance with all federal, state and local tax laws and regulations.          Minimizes tax liability through sound and informed application of tax laws and regulations permitting alternate treatment of taxable items.          Determines the tax consequences of the organization's past or proposed actions. Suggests favorable methods of reporting based on known facts and recommend processes follow patterns designed to minimize tax costs. Enhances the financial reporting functions to ensure the timely filing of various tax returns. Position has contact with all levels of management as well as customers, vendors, and independent accountants.         Plan and research tax audits, calculation and review of tax accruals and preparation of various miscellaneous tax reports. Develop and maintain automated tax and depreciation work papers related to federal and state tax returns, accrual analysis and administrative data. Maintain documentation for tax positions held by the Company. Working with management, obtain financial information so internal taxcomp can be calculated - Review quarterly Taxcomp and discuss and obtain approval from external Tax Professional, CAO and CFO.Review and file income, franchise, sales and use, and property         tax returns in approximately 48 states. Assist with Tax Footnote / MD&A in preparation of internal and external reporting documents.         Research applicability of various state tax laws to the Company and recommend filing approach or re-engineering to reduce tax exposure risk.         Remain abreast of upcoming tax legislation that could impact the Company and communicate the Company s position to the appropriate legislative or rule-making body. (Reading, seminars, professional organizations, etc.)Supervise and lead fixed asset tagging and inventory procedures at Branch locations within 48 states. Results will help correctly report property tax returns and assessments for fairness and drive opportunities to reduce burden         Assist the CAO with various ad hoc projects as needed.III.                Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:           Knowledge of general accounting theory and practice         Expert level knowledge of tax accounting and US GAAP required         Problem-solving skills         Research and investigative skills         PC Skills (MS Office, especially spreadsheet skills required, Hyperion and/or SSRS experience a plus)         Supervisory/managerial skills         Strong analytical and mathematical skills and applications         Strong communication skills (verbal, written, listening)         Attention to detail; multi-tasking skills; excellent time-management skills         Ability to work independently with minimal supervision         Flexibility and adaptability in a fluid and rapidly changing environment         Willingness to do more than basic job requirements as needed Education, Training and Experience Required:- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance/Business Administration - CPA License obtained or parts passed and working to complete- 4-8 years of Prior Big 4 or National CPA tax audit experience required or experience in the tax department of a bank or financial institution with national operations.- Experience in Financial Services industry a plus; Mortgage banking experience preferred
