Managing Counsel (Job Number: 1314451)
Description
A highly experienced attorney who either manages other attorneys or legal personnel or an area of practice within the Department. A Managing Counsel is highly skilled and competent in his or her area of practice, is seen as an expert in that area and has leadership skills. A Managing Counsel has ongoing and in-depth relationships with outside counsel.
This position will provide counsel to BNY Mellon's Global Derivatives Clearing business. The individual in this role will provide expert advice in identifying and managing critical legal and regulatory issues where he/she will draft, analyze and negotiate agreements supporting the establishment of client and omnibus clearing accounts; exchange and clearinghouse memberships, and vendor agreements. The individual will a dvise management on, among other things:
- applicable requirements under the Commodity Exchange Act and Dodd-Frank Act as well as under the rules of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the National Futures Association, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and other regulatory and self-regulatory bodies;
- corporate matters generally.
Preferred background:
- Licensed to practice law in NY and NJ
- 10+ years' experience with an FCM (Futures Commission Merchant) and/or with a regulator or law firm concentrating on FCM practice
- Thorough understanding of futures and derivatives regulation
- Experience with securities, swaps and international transactions
Qualifications
Advanced Legal degree with 10+ years' experience within the Legal industry
