3M Company has an opportunity for an Intellectual Property Counsel at our facility in St. Paul, Minnesota. The primary duty of the Intellectual Property Counsel is to prepare and prosecute patent applications on a global basis, including responding to written opinions of Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) applications in health care business, including dental, drug delivery systems, and food safety.
Qualifications
The position requires a Juris Doctor (J.D.) or foreign equivalent, as well as a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Pharmacology, plus two (2) years of related experience. Must also have two (2) years experience, which may be concurrent, in all of the following: (1) preparing and prosecuting patent applications on a global basis, including responding to written opinions of Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) applications; (2) preparing legal opinions, such as right-to-practice and freedom-to-operate opinions; (3) interfacing between inventors, clients, and patent attorneys during patent prosecution; (4) working with government agencies, including FDA or foreign equivalent; and (5) performing searches and analysis relating to patentability, validity, infringement, and clearance, through DialogWeb, PubWEST, and Delphion databases. Must also have prepared and performed search reports and written opinions of Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) applications. 3M Company will accept experience gained concurrently. Must have been granted limited recognition to practice in patent matters, or registered to practice, before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
