| Ensure
that Storage Area Networking, Storage Backup and SAN cabling
installation and services provided out of our Global Datacenters are
established in a professional manner. For a dedicated global Datacenter
(GDC) responsible for installed footprint of components in the area of
responsibility Storage Area Networking and associated SAN cabling and
connectivity. This includes the oversight of all installations,
connections and technical changes based on standards, best practices and
standard operating procedures, and includes operational support,
planning and reporting. Overall accountability for this domain resides
with the service line. This role will have a functional reporting line
to the service line organization. The role will contribute and
coordinate with the service line on behalf of the data center. For the area of responsibility SAN, Storage Backup and Storage Cabling in a dedicated GDC • All technical change requests related to Systems hosted in corresponding GDC • Participate in the change management process evaluating all SAN changes in corresponding DC and making sure that the change plan is feasible and the risks are technically mitigated and communicated to other teams. • Participate in incident calls providing technical expertise and solutions to the problems, working closely with the SAN service line in the resolution process. • Represent the corresponding DC in discussions with service line, vendors etc. ensuring all DC aspects are adequately taken care of. • Work with the SAN service line to provide technology advise on SAN platforms and architecture in order to offer solutions with high availability and resiliency. • Represent DC Operations in order to design SAN solutions that meet all requirements with the service lines. • Identify operational issues in the SAN and storage environment, and work with the vendor or service line to resolve. • Verify all system documentation and identify missing information, take steps to resolve. • Calculate capacity requirements for SAN and Storage and make sure that expansions are ordered in a timely manner. • Actively participate in the creation of SAN management processes and the revision of existing written instructions by making sure that all best practices in the industry are implemented. • Tracking of several projects by managing the vendor to provide deliverables on agreed timelines. • Critical thinking, challenging the vendor by providing additional ideas, creative thinking and not accepting the first possible solution. Self confidence. • Monitor the SAN, identify issues, interpret the data and start the troubleshooting process, identifypossible solutions to the issues. • Participate in the decision process for adoption of new storage technologies. • Participate in the definition of new SAN projects and initiatives, definition of project requirements and deliverables. • Supports NOC and Service line in any kind of incident related to the service hosted in the local GDC • Ensures completeness of CMDB for specific service and location • Member of the local Technical Change Board In addition to accountabilities listed above in Job Purpose: The SAN - Storage Backup and Storage Cabling subject-matter expert is responsible for the day to day delivery of a particular IT Service within the agreed service levels. The subject-matter expert assumes responsibility for lifecycle management, continual improvements and the management of change affecting the service under their care. Often, subject-matter expert leads a team of technical specialists or an internal support unit and negotiates Operational Level Agreements (OLAs) with the service providers of underpinning IT services. The subject-matter expert ensures that the relevant resources from the underpinning IT services are engaged in the delivery and support of the IT service. • Assists in defining the service model for the SAN - Storage Backup and Storage Cabling and assessing the impact on the area of new or changes to existing IT Applications, IT Systems, IT Services or IT Products through the service portfolio management process. • Solicits required data, statistics and reports for analysis to facilitate effective SAN - Storage Backup and Storage Cabling monitoring and performance. • Provides input in defining SAN - Storage Backup and Storage Cabling attributes such as performance, availability etc. • Understands the SAN - Storage Backup and Storage Cabling (underpinning IT Services and their service components, etc.). • Serves as the first point of escalation for major incidents relating to the SAN - Storage Backup and Storage Cabling. • Ensures that the SAN - Storage Backup and Storage Cabling entry in the catalogue is accurate and is maintained. • Identifies improvement opportunities for inclusion in the continual service improvement (CSI) register. • Makes improvements to the SAN - Storage Backup and Storage Cabling. • Ensures that the data center service in this area is prepared and able to respond to an invocation of the continuity plans. • Assesses changes for their impact on service continuity and continuity plans. • Attends CAB meetings when appropriate. • Provides technical knowledge and leadership in the specific technical areas covered by the team or department. • Reports to senior management on technical issues relevant to their area of responsibility. Overall responsibility for data center activities in this technical domain. This role will ensure that all day-to-day operational activities are carried out in a timely and reliable way. • Working with the service line, provides control and decision-making and assumes responsibility for the IT Operations Management teams and department. • Ensures that targets agreed within underpinning contracts are aligned with SLA and SLR targets. • Ensures that service reports are produced for each customer service and that breaches of SLA targets are highlighted, investigated and agreed actions progressed. • Ensures that all changes are assessed for their impact on service levels, including SLAs, OLAs and underpinning contracts, including attendance at CAB meetings if appropriate. Responsible for analyzing, planning, measuring and suggesting improvements to the availability of IT services in the data center in this technical area. • Assumes responsibility for monitoring actual IT availability achieved against SLA targets. Provides a range of IT availability reporting to ensure that agreed levels of availability, reliability and maintainability are measured and monitored on a on-going basis. • Proactively improves service availability wherever possible and optimizes the availability of the IT infrastructure to deliver cost-effective improvements that deliver tangible benefits to the business. Working with Service Line, responsible that services and infrastructure are able to deliver the agreed capacity and performance targets in a cost effective and timely manner. • Ensures that there is adequate IT capacity to meet required levels of services. Ensures that senior IT management is correctly advised on how to match capacity and demand and to ensure that use of existing capacity is optimized. • Understands the current usage of the infrastructure and IT services, and the maximum capacity of each component. | EDUCATION • Essential: o University degree level education or comparable education in Computer Science or Engineering Science (technical background) • Desirable: o Professional certification in Storage Networking (SNIA, EMC, Cisco, Brocade etc.) o Certification on Brocade and Cisco SAN. IBM and EMC storage certification is an advantage. o ITIL v3 experience or certification o Project Management skills EXPERIENCE • 7+ years of IT experience in Data Center Storage Networking. • More than 3 years of experience in Service Management of a regional or global service portfolio. • SAN provisioning, Storage Backup support and design experience in a virtualized DC environment • Data Center cable (fiber plant) expertise • Knowledge of SAN process around patching, management, security, zoning • Experience implementing and designing Storage Arrays, SAN networks. • Experience implementing backup systems. • SAN Monitoring and troubleshooting experience • Experience implementing SAN and Storage arrays. • Expert knowledge of Brocade or Cisco SAN switches. • Experience implementing backup systems. Netbackup, VADP, TSM, etc. • Knowledge of the Fiber Channel protocol and standards. • Knowledge of SAN Configuration for long distance, bottleneck detection, trunking, SAN routing, Virtual fabrics. • Knowledge of DWDM functionality and products. • Knowledge of cabling standards OM, OS, connectors, SAN structured cabling. • Experience with storage replication configuration and modes of operation. • Understanding of the full stack including Unix, Windows, VMware and others.
