Responsibilities:
  • Perform sample preparation and high precision elemental analyses in conformance with established procedures for Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Sulfur and standard titration techniques along with routine Jet fuel testing methods
  • Lab operations include instrument setup, calibration, troubleshooting, maintenance, sample preparation and associated general lab responsibilities (materials ordering, waste handling, housekeeping, clerical, etc.)
  • Reporting of results include use of various computing programs such as Microsoft Excel and custom applications, including associated interaction with the customer
  • Analyses require consistent application of standardized QA/QC/ISO protocols involving laboratory preparations and instrument operations, data recording, reagents and calibration standard validation, etc.
  • Assignment requires safe handling of pressurized equipment, high temperatures (combustion furnaces to 1000C), reagents, and sample materials
Requirements:
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring sponsorship
  • Must have a minimum four year degree, plus at least 1 year experience in Analytical lab environments utilizing general analytical lab skills is required
  • Experience with analyzing a broad range of sample types for CHN using Elementar Vario III analyzer, performing Total Base Number and mercaptan titrations, KF water determination, and Flash point determination by D56 and D93 required. Experience with ASTM D86, Thermogravimetric analysis, MicroCarbon residue, Nitrogen/Sulfur by PAC Multitek preferred
  • Ability to effectively multitask while running a diverse range of methods and an aptitude for instrumental analysis is strongly suggested including a willingness to perform instrument maintenance and troubleshooting as necessary
  • The techniques employed in this position require a high degree of precision with extensive quality assurance measures, as well as close interaction with the customers; the applicant must be able to demonstrate the ability to meet these obligations, and be willing to meet frequent customer demands for priority analysis support
  • General computing skills are necessary for operation of the instrumentation, as well as ability to use word processors, spreadsheets, and electronic communications                                                          For more details www.shell.com
