The IT Business Analyst (BA) will be responsible for the identification and definition of the Upstream Americas Logistics and Materials Management (MM) business needs, and to help determine solutions to meet those needs or resolve their business problems.
The BA will participate on the definition and delivery of both projects and enhancements.
This role will be responsible for supporting the IT needs of the UA Logistics and MM operations for Deepwater, Unconventionals, Heavy Oil and Exploration in the Americas.
The BA will interface with the business to translate business needs into documented requirements that can easily be translated by others.
The BA should understand IT solutions that are used within the business community and the business processes they support. As new global IT solutions are introduced to UA, the BA will help to understand the business processes and any gaps that exist.

Accountabilities will include:
- Responsibility for investigative work to determine requirements, and specify effective business processes, information flows and data structures.
- Maintains technical and business awareness at a level where alternatives can be analyzed, modeled, and classified according to technical feasibility and performance.
- Takes responsibility as needed for the detailed specification and modeling of recommended solutions using resources, standards, methods, and tools as required.
- Applies available standards, methods and tools in an intelligent and effective way, and produces a consistently high standard of documentation of both a technical and a descriptive nature.
- Plans, arranges, and controls meetings, workshops, and relations with client/user staff during system investigations and throughout subsequent development work. Takes responsibility at a high level for the proper conduct of such relations.
- Assists clients/users in defining acceptance tests for automated systems, and takes responsibility for their proper execution.
- Maintains links with appropriate counterparts like the IT Delivery, the Business, the Project Organization etc, and plays an advising role in bringing systems to implementation as detailed by organization policies and methods.
- BA plans and organizes own work effectively. Undertakes assignments in a systematic manner. Produces high quality deliverables in terms of both content and presentation. Examples of deliverables include: requirements analysis and specification, functional designs, UAT test plans and documentation, initial project charters. Be able to work other project deliverables as well adhering PDF (Project Delivery Framework) as a BA in the DV will be assigned to projects where needed.
Business Process Improvement / LEAN
- The BA should understand the Logistics and Materials Management business processes and be able to work with the business to suggest improvements when needed.
- Contributes to evaluating the factors which must be addressed in change programs, including cultural, organizational, and business constraints affecting options for change. Helps establish requirements for the implementation of changes in business processes by being the interface between the business & IT.
- The BA should be familiar with LEAN methods and techniques.
Consultancy
- The Business Analyst provides well-informed advice, within the area of current applications used by Logistics and Materials Management. In general, the BA will be able to advise on applications and how they interface to each other.
- The BA understands when new global applications are introduced and will work with the business to plan their implementation, and the retirement of the legacy applications.
Data Analysis
- The BA needs to understand how the data flows between the applications and understand the interdependencies between them.
- The BA should understand the data requirements and liaise with the Data Architects in order to provide the business with good advice.
