GE Software is looking for a Software Development Manager to work with business domain experts in transportation to solve real world problems by writing complex software for the Industrial Internet.
This is an exciting time to be part of the GE Software team as we are taking on some of the world’s biggest challenges through innovative software solutions. The team will be focused on developing new, complex software solutions for the transportation sector that will help transportation run more efficiently, curb emissions, and help increase the safety of transportation.
Responsibilities:

As a Software Development Manager you will be responsible for building and leading one or
more agile software development teams focused on new innovative software solutions for the transportation sector. The team will be responsible for, but not limited to the following essential functions:

  • Own and manage the multiple rapid prototyping and product development budgets
  • Coach, mentor, and lead a diverse group of lean/agile software and user experience engineers
  • Work with product owners across the energy businesses to understand market needs & vision; quickly translate that vision into demonstrable software
  • Quickly define and deliver working software prototypes
  • Work with product owners and architects to develop multi-generation software technology plans
  • Work directly with customers to understand business and technical needs
  • Drive increased efficiency across the teams, eliminating duplication, leveraging product and technology reuse
  • Support process improvements which guide the development, sustaining & support activities
  • Work cross functionally with other business departments to align activities and deliverables
  • Drive world-class quality in the development and support of products
  • Keep project data relating to tracking and financials current
  • Deliver resource strategy and plans, including use of 3rd parties/partners, etc., in support of development and support activities
  • Plan and manage budgets related to scope of team
  • Communicate effectively both within immediate team and GE leadership
  • Ensure team receives consistent messages and has clear understanding of business direction, strategy and results

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or in a STEM major (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in a Software Engineering leadership role
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in an agile environment

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. GE may agree to sponsor an individual for an employment visa now or in the future if there is a shortage of individuals with particular skills
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in San Ramon, CA
  • Must be willing to travel

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or in a STEM major (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) is desirable
  • Effective team building and problem solving abilities
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including executive level presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Able to interface effectively with all levels of the organization and external customers
  • Additional leadership experience in areas of operations, manufacturing and quality is preferred
  • Experience in software development environment would be a distinct advantage, including previous experience of writing code
