Job Description
 
Best known as the manufacturer of GORE-TEX fabrics for garments and footwear, Gore manufactures a wide range of high-performance fabrics engineered to protect wearers in the most demanding environments -- from explorers on the North Pole to firefighters, soldiers, and emergency workers.  We are looking for a Fabrics Quality Testing Lab Leader to join our quality testing lab team in Elkton, MD.

Responsibilities include:
  • Lab Operations
    • Ensuring lab operations are conducted in a safe manner. 
    • Driving operational improvements to lab testing processes.
    • Ensuring scheduling arrangements are in place to meet delivery requirements.
    • Driving appropriate staffing strategies.
    • Driving lab investment processes (forecasting, etc.).
  • Culture & Associate Development
    • Creating mechanisms to ensure high morale amongst lab associates.
    • Coaching and mentoring lab associates to build their skill sets.
  • Test Method Assessment
    • Evaluating and improving the reliability and repeatability of existing test methods.
    • Implementing new test methods, typically based on ASTM, AATCC, or other external standards.
    • Participating in efforts to correlate test methods with fitness for use requirements.
  • Global Coordination
    • Working with lab leaders at Gore sites in Japan, China, Germany, and UK to drive identification and implementation of best practices in lab operations and test methods.

Qualifications

Required Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering.
  • Minimum 8 years professional experience in a technical field.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully mentoring and/or sponsoring others.
  • Demonstrated experience setting goals and executing strategies and projects for self and for groups.
  • Demonstrated experience with statistics or designed experimentation.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of quality principles.
  • Strong understanding and practical application of scientific principles.
  • Experience applying operations research or OPEX concepts in work environment.
  • Demonstrated influencing skills across diverse functional groups
Preferred:
  •  Prior experience working in a lab environment
