A day in the life…
The Direct assistant buyer manages in season business by analyzing
performance, and contributes to product selection with the use of
customer and trend information to support the merchandise strategies of
the division. As a member of the team, the Direct assistant buyer
shares accountability to meet and exceed the departmental sales volume,
gross margin and gross-margin-return-on-investment (GMROI) targets.
- Establish a clear understanding of the seasonal merchandise strategy
- Track online customer choices
- Partner with Direct assistant buy planner on market preparation
- Contribute to negotiations of exclusive offerings, terms, pricing, vendor funded markdowns, return-to-vendor agreements, drop-ship programs, co-op, etc.
- Develop understanding of the e-commerce market and online competitors in their category
- Contribute to competitive price and selection analysis
- Drive inventory management in season; including mark downs and exit strategy
- Be a student of the business regarding effective analysis and decision making to improve department performance
- Partner with Direct assistant buy planner to improve the depth and precision of in stock position of fulfillment center and drop ship inventory
- Contribute to business reviews to develop greater understanding of how specific actions impact overall department results

You own this if you have…

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
-
Minimum 2 years retail experience interacting directly with customers

Minimum 1year e-commerce retail buying experience
-
Department manager experience required
-
Regional Merchandiser experience preferred

Demonstrated understanding of retail and the service environment of Nordstrom
-
Proficiency in MS Office suite

Clear and effective written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills
