Job Summary & Responsibilities
The VP will lead and manage a team supporting the Bank’s Chief Administrative Officer and other members of senior Bank management across a wide range of responsibilities central to the operations of GS Bank USA.Description of GS Bank USA
Established on November 28, 2008, Goldman Sachs Bank USA (the “Bank”) is a $111bn New York State-chartered bank (18th largest U.S. bank by assets) and a member of the Federal Reserve System. The Bank engages in a number of business activities including Private Bank Lending, Credit Origination, Mortgages, Interest Rate Derivative Products and deposit taking. Its assets primarily comprise corporate and private client loans and mortgages, liquid government bonds, and derivatives. The Bank is funded primarily through deposits, with securities funded by repurchase agreements and derivatives funded primarily by customer collateral, which is mostly cash. As of Q3 2013, the Bank had a total of $65bn of deposits.
Responsibilities of the Bank’s CAO team
Corporate Governance
• Oversee and manage the operations of GS Bank USA’s key committees and working groups, including Management Committee, Client & Business Standards Committee, Operating Committee, Employee and Vendor Oversight Committee, and Federation MD Working Group. Membership of these Committees includes the Bank’s senior managers and firmwide leaders of the Bank’s businesses and Federation functions. Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
o Agenda setting and forward calendar planning
o Coordination with responsible parties to ensure follow through on agreed action items
o Secretary function, including materials for meetings
o Coordination with other GS Bank USA committees, including to ensure “best practices” are consistently followed
• Coordinate closely with Secretary of Bank’s Board of Directors re agendas and logistics
• Coordinate “best practices” with the firm’s Committee Operating Group and the management teams of other highly-regulated entities at Goldman Sachs, including but not limited to trust companies
Employee Supervision and HCM Processes
• Oversee, implement and maintain the framework for designating and supervising Bank employees, including Role Management and Privilege Management functions
• Primary point of contact between HCM and Bank management, with areas of focus including hiring, compensation, promotion decisions, and the Bank’s compliance with its “Covered Employee” obligations
• Oversee and manage the Bank’s administrative assistants in New York
Operations and Administration
• Manage, and oversee logistics re Bank’s budget for: headcount and associated expenses, as well as budget for miscellaneous expenses e.g., technology upgrades
• Coordinate Bank Business Continuity planning, including employee training, contributing to the formation of the Plan, and coordinating with firmwide and divisional BCP teams
• Oversee allocation of Bank physical space and floor access, as well as administer signage policies
• Oversee, with Bank Compliance, implementation of certain policies applicable to regulated banking entities, including office locations, required employee absences, personal trading of employees, and Bank supervisory and coverage responsibilities
• Function as the Bank’s vendor relationship owner for Corporate Services and Real Estate, the Office of Global Security, and HCM
• Provide project management support for wide range of Bank Management and CAO team initiatives
• Monitor news flow on bank regulatory matters and other issues of interest to Bank Management
• Manage departmental charitable contributions budget and execute contribution requests
Communications
• Coordinate content and logistics for Bank CEO’s internal and external speaking engagements, as well as Bank Management announcements and communications
• Manage the Bank’s internal communications strategy and serve as “divisional” representative to Internal Communications
• Assist with the development of the Bank’s external communications and marketing strategy
• Plan meetings and events for internal audiences (quarterly town halls, networking events, etc.)
Basic Qualifications
• Good judgment as to where to spend time across multiple competing priorities• Able to impose organization and infrastructure to various deliverables that today are managed on ad hoc basis
• Able to effectively manage a team – good delegator but also willing and able to get into the details
• Able to juggle multiple balls while maintaining composure
• Proactive and thoughtful – identifies solutions to problems before problems even recognized
• Appetite to take on new responsibilities and challenges – willing to roll up sleeves and get done whatever needs to get done
