The Risk Management Group (RMG) is an independent, centralised unit responsible for assessing and monitoring risks across Macquarie. This includes market and liquidity risk, credit risk, compliance risk and operational risk. RMG personnel liaise closely with all operating areas to ensure risks are understood and properly managed.
Key responsibilities of the role:
- Researching and documenting the systems used for trading and recording all Commodities asset classes.
- Researching and documenting the trading strategies in use.
- Working with local and global RMG staff to determine the appropriate level of surveillance necessary.
- Liaising with technology and other internal staff to determine the most effective method of extracting all relevant data required for surveillance.
- Identifying and liaising with potential solution providers (both internal and external) to define surveillance requirements and ensure that they meet both Macquarie and regulatory requirements.
- Assisting user acceptance testing of the chosen solutions and undertaking reconciliation of data back to source systems to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Assisting in the documentation of surveillance parameters and system/user procedures.
- Undertaking surveillance on a daily basis, escalating and following up issues to a successful conclusion.
Experience and skills required:
- Extensive experience in building and maintaining trade surveillance programmes within the commodities industry with a particular emphasis on the energy markets.
- Experience in using industry leading surveillance applications, including SMARTS.broker, Actimize or similar, for surveillance.
- Experience in leveraging existing internal trading and market risk tools to monitor trading patterns and identify trend change/outliers.
- A strong understanding of the role of Compliance within the Commodities markets;
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal;
- Ability to develop relationships across various stakeholders, including local and regional advisory Compliance staff, ITG and the business;
- Self directed, with the ability to proactively identify and analyse problems, and propose viable solutions;
- Good organisation skills with the ability to work towards and meet deadlines; and
- Tenacity and flexibility, with experience of managing and prioritising a number of activities simultaneously
