Responsibilities
This
person filling this position will play an important role in the Global
Practice Americas organization, part of EMC's, Technology Solutions
group, which provides planning, design, implementation and management
services to EMC’s global clients, in the Americas.
The specific focus for this role is to bridge the gap between pre-sales, and service delivery to ensure sales success and alignment between sales and delivery, between as-designed and as delivered. The Sr. Solution Architect (SSA) will work with pre-sales engineering to ensure that the sales organizations’ “as-designed” solution can be proven during a Proof of Concept with defined success criteria, and then subsequently delivered successfully. The SSA will act as the POC lead, with a team consisting of a Project Manager, Delivery Engineer, and the pre-sales SE to develop the POC success criteria, objectives and Sr. Management wrap up presentation. Once the POC is awarded, the SA will work with the customer to transition the deployed architecture and solution into a production environment ensuring a cohesive transition, from pre to post sales, and driving customer satisfaction in doing so.

General activities will include:
· Attend technical presales meetings and presentations to drive new business and validate technical feasibility.
· Provide presentations of architectural and functional designs to the customer to support new implementations or as an advisor.
· Provide
Enterprise Data Center Design, Implementation and Integration
expertise, around the EMC Advanced Storage Division (ASD) portfolio of
products. The
ASD portfolio of technology includes Network and Storage solutions for
Fault, Performance, and Configuration management of heterogonous
environments, such as Smarts, Watch4Net, ProSphere, NCM, AppSync, ECC
ControlCenter and more.
· Develop
Statements of Work and project plans based on the customer’s
requirements and proof of concept to include prioritization and cost
assessment.
· Conduct
Health Assessments of previously installed Enterprise Network
Management implementations, providing customers with a written
assessment and recommendations. This could be related to competitive
platforms such as Micomuse, HP Openview, Tivoli and BMC
· Participate in or lead discussions on requirements gathering and solutions architecture.
Specific skills and experience levels are listed below.
· UNIX Shell scripting, Perl and/or Smarts Adapter Sscripting Language and/or html programming (i.e. html, xml, or CGI)
· Regular expressions, Boolean logic
· Operational experience managing an enterprise or service provider network is a plus
· Operating Systems (basic systems administration skills)
o Windows Server (20003, 2008, etc)
o Unix (Linux, HP/UX, AIX)
o Hypervisors, such as VMware ESX and Microsoft Hyper-V
· Networking
o Networking and routing protocols such as TCP/IP, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, etc.
o Common elements, i.e. routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, telecommunications devices and services
o Network Management tools, such as CiscoWorks, Solarwinds, and Nagios
o Network Management and/or Element Management systems
o Enterprise Management Systems for applications, routers, servers, switches, telecommunications devices
o Device Management protocols, including SNMP, WMI, and SSH
o Event message formats including SNMP Traps, syslog, and log-files
o Specific expertise in Micromuse, HP Openview, IBM Tivoli, BMC Patrol and Smarts a big advantage.
· Storage Software
o Storage Software Element Management tools such as EMC ControlCenter, ProSphere, SCA and/or Equivalent
· Business & Application Service Management experience desirable
o Application Availability / Performance Management products and solutions
o Analyzing business value and metrics associated with IT infrastructure
o Reporting tools and concepts, including custom reporting, Executive Dashboards, trending analysis, etc.
· Database basics; should be capable of basic database operations such as queries and table joins although DBA level not required
· Travel is required for this position, sometimes on short notice. Travel frequency and length varies by position and location but will include travel to periodic team meetings at a minimum.
· Proven ability to work independently as well as collaboratively. As part of a diverse global team, our success is often a collective effort leveraging the prior experience of others either within EMC or with 3rd party vendors.
· Proven trouble-shooting ability
· Must be comfortable presenting
Bachelor's degree and 8 to 15 years experience or equivalent.

- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills and display project leadership abilities.
