The Data Platform Team in Application Service Group is responsible for providing a comprehensive data platform to support Microsoft businesses, such Search Data Mining, Ads BI, Office Big Data, Skype and others. The Data Management Service Team within the Data Platform Team owns the responsibility to deliver the hosted service into production to manage customer data marts, partition data marts as needed and move big data to the proper destinations through metadata driven solution. The data marts managed by the Data Management Service are used by application teams and business teams to provide customers and internal decision-makers with high quality analytics and reporting, giving them vital insights into their business. The systems we build and support routinely have data sizes in the terabyte range and present some of the most challenging scale and operational requirements in the industry. We are focused on providing our customers with a great user experience through self-service, a robust data platform, and a highly reliable operational system. We work simultaneously on delivering a great product for our customers, improving our engineering processes, and growing our SDE’s skills. The Senior Development Engineer position for the Data Management Service team is responsible for the strategy, architecture, and design of our hosted service platforms and the tools to manage these on a global scale, mentor other junior team members, and drive solutions into the production. Roles & Responsibilities We are looking for an experienced Senior Development Engineer to be part of our team. The ideal candidate will be a strong developer who has experience shipping in an Agile delivery environment, while maintaining high code quality, high ‘live site’ availability and performance. The Senior Development Engineer will be responsible for architecting and designing a hosted data management platform that is robust, easy to support, and performs to high standards. The hosted data platform needs to be designed to accommodate implementation on traditional SAN, SQL Azure, AutoSQL, STRIPE, SQL VM on Windows Azure and other current and future Microsoft data storage fabrics. The person in this role will work regularly with other partner product teams and influence the future direction of those products. Skills & Qualifications The successful candidate in this role will need to be able to solve complex scale problems, design high performance solutions, and influence the overall data platform strategy. Ideally, he/she will have more than 8 year related experience, strong on SQL related technologies, driving process improvement, and growing the team's capabilities. This is a role for someone who has a track record of impact & influence across technical teams. Experience Required Core qualifications are: • B.S. in Computer Science or related field • Minimum 8 years of experience designing, implementing, and shipping customer-facing or commercial online systems. • Proven strong database design and coding skills are required. Experience should be in designing and implementing systems in the >100TB scale. • Strong C# design and coding are required. Expertise in TSQL, SSAS, and SSIS is required. Expertise in Cosmos, WCF, WF, ASP.Net, and IIS is desirable. • Proactive and able to work in a combined engineering (Dev, Test, and Ops) team environment • Excellent communication skills, positive attitude, and an ability to have Impact and Influence • Proven ability to mentor and grow other Devs is desired.
