The GE Transportation – Global Services Operation (GSO) business seeks an Analytics Engineer to develop and manage analytics projects & offerings in the Railroad Service industry. In this role, you will work with cross-disciplinary teams, key stakeholders and customers across other GE Transportation sub-businesses on applied research projects leveraging extensive data set available across the enterprise.
This role will require the individual to partner across engineering, operations, and IT functions to design and build sophisticated analytical models to strategically support the business in its condition-based operations and the development of the next generation of service offerings. Lead by example in the technical development & promotion of critical analytics-based content that will both define and support Services 2.0 using the most appropriate qualitative / quantitative techniques and tools.In addition, you will:
  • Manage execution for key analytics projects
  • Continually connect locomotive, shop, sensor / instrument, & expert knowledge, data and models to build up components of an “Industrial Internet” for the railroad industry
  • Work in technical teams in the application and deployment of data mining methods
  • Execute data & visual analysis for discovery and opportunity generation
  • Develop descriptive & predictive models via simple approaches / algorithms
  • Partner with other functions within the business, best-in-class external partners, the Software CoE, and Global Research Center on analytics project work
  • Coordinate analytical needs and programs with internal and external customers
  • Continually work to embed discoveries / learning back into the business to drive cultural change
  • Identify & promote industry tools / standards that enable and scale analytics across GE Transportation
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional analytics experience in data mining / trend analysis / distillation of Key Performance Indicators
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in some aspect of service management (field experience, contract technical program execution or financial analysis)ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time, as required

  • Strong statistical background with analytical & quantitative skills
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma concepts & tools (GE Employees only)
  • Experience with SAS programming & analytics environment
  • Other coding experience, e.g. C / C++, HTML5, Java, Python, etc
  • Master’s Degree or Ph.D. with a minimum of 2 years of experience in the field of Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline
  • Ability to execute multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively in a cross-functional team
  • Ability to identify opportunities to improve processes and initiate change; demonstrated commitment for process improvement
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of internal and external organizations, including upper management
  • Strong interpersonal, influence, and conflict resolution skills
  • Master Black Belt or Black Belt certified (GE Employees only)
  • Strong understanding of life-cycle cost / life-time value modeling and stochastic modeling
