Team Overview
The Software Engineering Team is a global team of approximately 20 software engineers working across 5 core development locations around the world. The group's key responsibilities are : documentation and promotion of best practices; facilitation of training and skill development; development and support of tools, frameworks, and core libraries; and consulting and troubleshooting. The team is therefore involved with working on a wide range of technologies, tools and frameworks creating great opportunities for enhancing and development new skills
Job Purpose
The purpose of the role is to facilitate efficient and consistent development processes and tools within the organization. This results in a more maintainable codebase, with a greater degree of transparency and results in more accurate and reliable software upon which to manage the nearly $13 Trillion of AUM on our systems.
Role Responsibility
• Maintain and establish software best practices to be used globally across the enterprise
• Develop and enhance core libraries which form the bedrock for all the firm's software development platforms
• Provide support and guidance to other developers across all development groups
• Provide new developers on-boarding and technical training
• Support, maintain and provide governance over all of the developer tools (SCCS, build, issue tracking, etc).
• Assist developers in debugging complex issues
Experience
• At least 6 years professional experience in Software Development
• B.S. in Computer Science or related field
• Software Development experience with Java 3+ years including Java/J2EE-Web application Development experience
• Strong understanding of the Unix operating system
• Build system tools, Ant, Ivy, nmake, Hudson and general dependency / library management knowledge
• Proven track record of problem solving and debugging of complex configuration management issues
• Experience in Source Code Management, preferably using Subversion
• Strong knowledge of interacting with databases (ability to write queries and joins). The ideal candidate should have worked extensively with Sybase
• A clear and comprehensive understanding of the full development lifecycle from Analysis through to Development and Testing with experience of both Configuration and Release Management.
• Ability to multitask, maintaining composure in high-visibility situations
• Clear and concise communication skills, both verbally and in writing. Interacts in a cooperative manner with co-workers from around the globe
• Experience in Perl and or C++/C# development would be advantageous ,
• Some exposure to the following tools and technologies would be advantageous: Javascript, AJAX, DHTML, CSS, JBoss, XML / XSLT,
