| Job description |
IBM's SoftLayer public cloud customer enablement team is looking
for a skilled software development engineer to be part of customer
proof-of-concepts team, that show cases how the services can meet
customer’s public cloud requirements.
IBM’s public cloud
infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) offering is based on IBM SoftLayer
technology and provides a self-service secure and scalable hosted IT
infrastructure with on-demand access to virtual and bare-metal servers,
storage and network resources with a usage based payment model.
You
will apply your broad cloud knowledge and user interface development in
skills to build prototypes and demo applications that highlight how the
features and functions of IBM's SoftLayer platform can meet customer
application requirements.
In addition to your skills in mobile
application development, you will additionally have expertise in IBM's
SoftLayer public cloud platform.
Core Responsibilities As a software development engineer within the Customer Enablement team, you will:
Contribute
your technical skills to conduct PoCs with customers to show them
SoftLayer platform services can indeed meet their public cloud
requirements
Build sample applications (mobile or desktop)
and prototypes that showcases how specific features within the SoftLayer
platform can be used
Have good knowledge of in IaaS concepts and solutions
Have
hands-on expertise in using the IBM SoftLayer services across the
entire platform: compute, networking, storage, middleware and
application services
Be able to conduct presentations and
demos highlighting the features and functions of SoftLayer platform at
customer briefings and industry events.
Write white papers on lessons learned and best practices
Author
and also assist in creating enablement instructional and information
content highlighting how to use the SoftLayer services
Work with team members across multiple time zones
Collaborate with marketing teams to evangelize IBM SoftLayer offering capabilities on social media sites
Needed skills: 2+ years experience in Cloud related projects 1+ years experience in building user interfaces using HTML5 or natively on iOS and Android platforms. 1+ years experience in Linux system administration including networking
Desired Qualifications:
Someone who strengths in writing code and building prototypes, demos and applications
Development skills in one or more languages: Java, PHP, Ruby, Python
Hands-on knowledge of OpenStack and KVM – strongly preferred Knowledge of SoftLayer platform
Linux system administration: Redhat, SuSE, Ubuntu
Good knowledge and awareness of capabilities of at least one public cloud: Amazon, Rackspace, Microsoft
Knowledge of automation frameworks: Chef and/or Puppet
Knowledge of open source cloud-native technologies such as - Apache Cassandra, Cordova. NoSQL, Hadoop
Knowledge of installing middleware softwares like: SpringSource, CloudFoundry, Cloudera
Nice to have:
Windows administration and automation skills
While this job can be done from any city, the preferred location is San Jose, CA.

- Bachelor's Degree
- At least 2 years experience in software development roles in the area of Internet applications in Java, Python, PHP, or Ruby
- Readiness to travel 10% travel annually
