| The
Sr. Manager, Enterprise Quality Assurance will be a leader and champion
NetApp’s culture of quality, and will be responsible for the design and
achievement of its goals with respect to quality of products and
services across the Enterprise including IT with emphasis on
applications, infrastructure and processes . In so doing, the Sr.
Manager, Enterprise Quality Assurance will also ensure that NetApp IT
delivery conforms to the agreed level of proficiency on the Testing
Maturity Model (TMM). The Sr. Manager, Quality Assurance will provide
leadership and direction to his/her team as well as any indirect
resources. The Sr. Manager, Quality Assurance will possess outstanding operational experience and skills, including the demonstrated ability to design quality goals and processes, and to provide positive motivation to his/her colleagues in implementing the processes and achieving the goals. With the appropriate operational experience, he/she will understand operating disciplines and how to set appropriate goals and how to measure and show relevant metrics for all areas of IT involved in the production and delivery of products and services. Moreover, it will be critical to this individual’s success that he/she has a true collaborative approach to the achievement of goals, be team oriented and has a hands-on approach. In addition, the Sr. Manager, QA will partner closely NetApp’s Quality Assurance in the Product/Engineering organizations to conform to NetApp global standards, establish synergy, share best practices and develop consistent standards. In doing so, also facilitate and create career opportunities for his/her team across organizations. This position reports to the Sr. Director of Quality & Performance Management Primary Responsibilities: •Lead software quality assurance functions to own and drive successful delivery of all applications and infrastructure services while contributing to the IT strategy and the overall IT roadmap •Recruit and build a world class quality assurance team and utilize external resources to drive initiatives and high quality products •Set the technical direction for the team, drive the evolution of the systems architecture, and make appropriate technology choices •Establish a strong relationship with the key business and IT partners with the help of the project teams to ensure that functional and non-functional testing requirements are defined •Define organization, structure and establish testing lifecycles that ensure quality is measured and achieved at every step of the system development lifecycle (SDLC) (Requirements through Code Deployment). •Evaluate current QA/Testing capabilities against the TMM reference model to drive maturity and improvements across enterprise •Take a hands-on approach to the entire software development life-cycle: develop project and resource plans / schedules; perform day-to-day project management to ensure successful, on-time releases; assist the team in accomplishing all tasks; demonstrate ownership and accountability for the entire product delivery process •Work effectively with service owners, project managers, developers, engineers, and the senior management team to allocate QA resources appropriately across various projects, juggling current customer/prospect needs with longer term product roadmap needs (weighing, balancing, & communicating the tradeoffs as necessary) •Implement processes and metrics to insure that the IT and Business organizations are extremely efficient and focused, and that actions are based on those metrics and service level expectations. •Manage expectations, set realistic goals, and achieve them •Challenge all aspects of existing goals, processes and assumptions to ensure higher quality •Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, speed, innovation, excellence and a fun work environment while continuously elevating the quality and caliber of our product development organization •Lead and professionally develop a team of 3-5 direct reports and provide leadership for a team consisting full-time employees and full-time/part-time consultants. | Essential Functions •Design, develop and implement QA operating policies in adherence to TMMi reference models that ensure effective delivery across the following dimensions: •Develop and approve exceptions to policy tied directly to area of responsibility •Work collaboratively with other Directors, Sr. Managers, IT executive management and across business unit executives especially the head of Enterprise Architecture to establish strategic plans and objectives •Participate in corporate development of methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for projects, programs and people within your area of responsibility •Develop budgets for approval and assure adherence once budget is approved •Utilize previously acquired technical, project management, and people management experience to actively lead strategic regional and global projects •Manage and control of planning, staffing, budgeting and expenses. Management & Interaction Management - Scope: Directs and controls the outcome for not just this team but for overall Quality of products & services delivered by the IT organization. This position is the Service Owner in the new Operating Model for Enterprise Quality Assurance. Works very closely with Director AR/Test in Biz Apps to ensure conformance to process & practices. - Influence & Impact: Accountable to plan, develop and implement QA and Test practices for the Enterprise within IT and corresponding business units. Ultimately accountable for Go/No-Go recommendation to the Exec IT staff. Drives for total customer experience for IT by ensuring that all products/services delivered by IT meet or exceed the quality standards established - Leadership: As the Service Owner, he or she will be the domain expert for Quality Assurance. Be the thought leader for this domain within IT and will leverage the domain expertise to work with our Product Engineering to ensure consistent practices across the company. Motivate, Lead and develop a talented team that can oversee, manage and ensure accountability for quality. - Strategic Impact: Accountability for this role is directly aligned with NetApp FY13 goals. - Policy/Procedures: Expected to develop, implement policy/procedures for Enterprise IT. Advocates and evangelizes for consistent practices that improve the maturity of Quality Assurance processes - Budget: Manages budget for team and any budgets assigned for projects. | Experience & Qualifications •A minimum of 5 to 10 years of progressive leadership/management experience in managing a team of employees with a track record of hiring, mentoring and coaching to build a high-performance team •7 plus years of solution management and delivery experience including experience in managing large-scale set-up of testing capabilities and organization •Strong knowledge of quality practices (such as Lean, TMM) including experience in large scale business process re-engineering efforts •Must possess experience in developing business case to show cost and return on quality investments •Must have experience in driving or leading process improvement initiatives •Must have excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical, problem solving, organizational, and leadership skills •Must have prior experience with executive level engagement including presentations, goal setting and developing strategy •Demonstrate Test/QA/Change Control acumen with the track record of advocating teamwork and building strong, collaborative working relationships •Extensive knowledge of development lifecycle and methodologies, with multiple full life cycle experiences •Working knowledge of technologies in the QA and Testing space •Must be a self-directed, natural leader and possess subject matter expertise Education •A Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Computer Science required; or equivalent; a Graduate degree preferred •TMMi certification preferred but not a must-have •Other certifications like Lean Six Sigma, DMAIC, TQM would add value to the candidate profile | |
